Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stolen - Pinarello Catena Lusso

Please be on the lookout for my baby especially in/around the L.A./Long Beach area. I know it's vintage and I'm unlikely to ever see her again, but I already am having withdrawal pains. I seriously loved this bike (steel is real). Dunno if I'll be able to find another like her.

I guess maybe I'll have to look at a newer one now (we'll see. I have an inherent disdain for anything carbon fiber, but maybe I can get over it). There goes another few grand.

- - - - -

Details:

Pinarello Catena Lusso (pretty sure it was an '86 model)
Dura-Ace 7800 front crankset
Dura-Ace 7800 rear derailleur
Shimano Ultegra 10-speed rear cassette
Mavic Askium wheels (on it at the time it was ripped off) w/ the Bontrager tires in the pics above
Cycling computer & heart-rate monitor
etc, etc, etc...

Obligatory pics:

pretty. keep an eye out on ebay and craigslist. tell the LBSs too because if the person was to keep it, it would show up around there eventually.

how did it get jumped?

edit: it looks massive. few people could fit it. definitely look out for it on ebay daily from now for at least a month or two. then bid on it, win at whatever cost, get an address to pick up, and show up with the cops.

I like your thinking. I've already talked to my biggest LBS and they said they'd definitely look out for it. I'm bringing down some photos tomorrow. No doubt they'll try to sell me a new CF bike but what the hell. Maybe I'll try one and who knows - I might just end up liking it... I'm trying to be open-minded here.

Broke right into my garage, busted off a lock with a crowbar or pipe or something. Never found the lock. Cops came tonight & took a report. I'll definitely be on the lookout around here - it's a pretty unusual bike so I shouldn't have much difficulty noticing it.

The cops said to call them if I ever saw it around town and I said sure thing, I'll tell you where you can send the ambulance.

Call your homeowner's insurance. Some plans cover expensive (~$1000) or more items in the house against theft. You should have them fix your garage door as well.

Suddenly your Bike Forums user name makes more sense.

Sorry to hear about the loss. At least the paint job will make it very easy to pick out. Good luck with recovering it.

Judging from the size of that frame, they may need two ambulances

I get a "Pinarello" tag sent to by email whenever a new Pinarello bike is listed on eBay, if I see it or the frame, I will let you know 2wheels. Sucks that this happened to the bike but at least it is an incredibly distinctive bike, it will be very hard to fence.

With the paint, the relatively rare marque and the size of the frame, it should stand out.

Good luck.
