Finally Bought My Bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There is nothing whatsoever wrong with the stock Bontrager components except, perhaps, the saddle but stock saddles almost always suck regardless of the manufacturer.

A large seat bag with full repair kit. Frame pump or Co2 inflator.

And I say the large seat bag because I got a medium sized one (110 in3) and I find it to be a bit... small. I keep a cell phone (razr), ID wallet (which is like 5mm thick), and tireirons, patch kit, and multitool in there. It's cramped as it is. No room for snacks or camera.

Time to go for those 250 in3 ones.

What are they?

I'm probably going to pick up a seat bag this week. I want to be able to travel with the repair stuff, wallet, and phone. I'm also going to try and pick up a Co2 inflator. I have a frame pump, but Co2 inflators are cooler

I'm pretty sure Cannondale makes a 250 cubic inch bag, I've seen it at Performance but their website is down again.

Well, I was thinking of either doing that or moving to a seatpost-rack and trunk bag, but I think the fred-o-meter would explode if I did that.

Great Bike! I got a trek 2100 last year and have had a great time putting over 1k miles since new and 2 triathlons. And all of that riding on the stock saddle. I have thought about getting a different saddle but I haven't had any saddle sores or anything so I have stuck with it. The one thing that I would get is a few more pairs of shorts. I never wear mine without them being washed from the last ride so if you only have one pair that is going to be a lot of washing! As for the bag for the repair stuff...I take a tube and the tools and the co2 and put a rubberband around it all and put it in one of the pockets of the jersey or around the seat post. Cell phone, DL, and CC go in a plactic bag and in a pocket.
Time to go hit the hills now!!

Not now as in right now (but there are some good hills to good ride in O.C. and you could strap a flash light to the handlebars)...and the whole flip thing...to each thier own but I haven't had to do anything to mine except fine turn the saddle position.
Something else that I have found helpful to have is a HR moniter but there are a lot of different opinions on this one. For me it helps me keep track of my progress by comparing my HR to the last time I did the same ride and also making sure that I don't over extend myself.

Do you have a track/floor pump? That's a must - it's tough getting 110-120psi with a frame pump.

I was thinking about buying this at the LBS. I didn't do it though. I regret it though because I imagine the hand pump would become a big pain. Any recommendations?

I would check out www.nashbar.com they have the same pump for $5 cheaper and a ton of other things that you might need for a real good deal.

Congrats on your new bike! She's a beauty! The one I wanted on CL got sold so I gotta continue my hunt.

Nice, looks good, I like the blue color scheme. Looks like it's got a couple of niches on it already. That's good, means your putting it to use

Yeah, it is a 54. They sized me up and everything when I went. They had me stand on this measuring machine which was connected to a computer and had me stand in all these weird positions. After he was done he said 54. The bike feels right, so I guess I'm good.

@Tarmac dude- that bike is way above my price range

Nike looking ride! I've used those bontrager tires before. They are just about bullet proof. I never experience one flat with them. The downside is they are on the heavy side and ride a little rough. I never pumped them up past 80psi to help smooth things out.

Enjoy

Think twice before buying a Winnebago-sized saddle bag. For one, they look stupid, and you clearly are starting to understand that how you look is far more important than how you ride. (j/k ). But as you ride more and more that thing hanging back there off your ass will start to bother you if it's too big. I use the smallest size anybody makes and carry a folded $20, an old drivers license, 2 plastic tire irons, the smallest multitool (https://shop.sunrisecyclery.com/item/11518) in the world, a tube, CO2 inflator and cartridge https://www.genuineinnovations.com/bi...px?prodid=1097. The cell phone and a key (if I drove to the ride) and snacks/gels go in jersey pockets. No need for that giant knapsack back there! Here's mine:
