Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Frame size suggestion for someone 6'5", thanks.

One of my best buddies is looking to buy a road bike, which would be great because it would give me someone else to ride with. I was hoping to get an idea of about what size frame he should be looking for. He wanted to check the craigs list etc etc before going to the LBS and being fitted. Thanks!

Huge.

There are online fitting calculators that'll give a good, but rough, starting point. It's about way more than being tall.

Well I am 6'3" and I ride a 61 specialized allez elite. I think I could go either way 58 - 61 but I am all legs. I bet the 61 would fit your friend.

Here is mine:

I'm the same height and ride a 63/64cm. Obviously it will depend on his proportions, flexibility, preference etc etc.

I met up with an NBA center while on a ride last saturday (nice guy so I'll keep his name out of the lime light). Anyway, nearly 7' tall and was riding a custom made 65 cm frame. Yeah, I had to ask him since it dwarfed all other bikes on the road.

So I would guess you frame size will be in the 60 to 63 size

Thanks guys, thats what I was thinking. My other buddy has a 65cm Trek hybrid that he rides, he is 6'7". Its just been sitting in his garage though. I will take a look at the craigs list and see if there is anything in the 61-63 cm range for him to gauge some prices. Ill send him to the LBS for a professional opinion as well.

I think 63 will be the sweet spot.

I am 6'2" mostly torso and ride a 60 with a 120 stem.

If he is leggy, maybe a 61 will fit the bill, if he is torso, think 63+.
