Is there a big difference between Mavic Aksium vs Ksyrium Elite?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is there a big difference between Mavic Aksium vs Ksyrium Elite?

My Bianchi came with a set of Mavic Aksium and I'm looking to upgrade it to something better. Would a set of Ksyrium Elite be a good upgrade or should I wait and save a bit more and get a set of Ksyrium SL?

Thank you in advance!

The ones I have on my signature would be about $600.

A very good set of wheels can be had for $450 or so using different spokes.
