Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

worst place stung!!!!

I'm cracking up over the bug eating thread and it made me think........
What is your worst bee / bug attack tale?

Last year I was flying up a bike path in Irvine CA. I see this bee shooting towards me. Next thing I know I feel a wiggling inside my jersey!!! I jump off the bike and try to pull my shirt off my back...... And then, blam!!! the little F#$%er stings me on the back. Anyone one else have a horror story? What about you lads riding in the tropics?

That's not the worst place stung.

The only thing that has ever happened to me is a bee bouncing off the side of my face... no actual sting though.

I was stung by a wasp on the inside of the thigh while picking green coconuts at the top of a palm tree in Lahaina Maui. Nice place to be, bad place to be stung. I managed not to fall out of the tree.

I've had a bee in the jersey, he got me on the shoulder, I've had a bee hit me in the sun glasses, stung on the side of the nose and I had one that got caught in my helmet strap in front of my ear and ended up getting stung on the right ear.

Inside my bottom lip by a bee. Really glad it didn't end up further into my mouth as I could have had a tightening of the throat

Funny side was having to go to school the next day

I had my first bee in the helmet experience last week... luckily it was a bumblebee, and it was slightly stunned, so I was able to pull over and get my helmet off before the bee panicked and stung me. I think we *both* had a moment of sheer heebie-jeebies after that

I stopped wearing tank tops on the bike after a friend of mine took a wasp in her cleavage...

Last summer I had a bee fly down my jersey (half unzipped; my bad) and sting me on the stomach. That's when I discovered I could ride w/no hands and shake out my jersey.

About 3 weeks ago I had a bee sting me on my neck. It hurt a bit, but mostly itched for the next few days.

Then last week, after the Marin Century, a bee stung me just left of my navel. I was covered up and sitting still, and it still got me. D*mn! I had the medics put some lidocaine on it; wish I'd gotten a prescription. It itched like crazy.

I can stand the pain but I'm sad that bees need to die by stinging us needlessly. D*mn.

The Red Cross Medics in Marin told me that the more often you're stung, the more likely you are to develop a reaction. The first few times I was stung I had no reaction, but the last 3 times I've been stung I've had itching and redness at the site of the sting. My RN friend says it can get worse.

Great. I hate being the cause of a death at all, let alone a beneficial insect's death.

I've been stung once in the mouth, twice in the knee, and once on my hand. The hand was actually the worst of the lot; it was a yellow jacket and in addition to hurting a lot at the time, my hand swelled up and bothered me for about a week.

had a wasp fly up my nose. I franticly tried to pull it out, and it ended up stinging me right on the inner edge since then, I've always tried to avoid bees or wasps.

Yeah, back of the throat for me, too.

I was ripping a descent and in it went. It stung me, I spit it out and then figured out what the hell had happened.

Held my line though.

A few in the jersey. One or two stings, I can't remember.

back of the throat... i have also been bitten on the chest and around on the flank. the little monsters get inside your jersey and fly around until they get mad enough to sting and who knows where that will be

I've been stung many times by bees in my jersey or helmet. BTW, if you have no hair your chances of getting stung when a bee gets in your helmet are much less because it's easier for them to get away.

just below the eye. NOt quite as bad as Vaughters but swelled pretty badly.

I was new to my Company at the time. Had a meeting with the CEO the next day. Looked like I'd been in a fight. Rather embarrassing.

Been bit on the inside tip of my thumb as it got wedged between my thumb & hood/brifter. Did not realize it until I was stung. Another incident occurred when I unzipped my jersey about 3 inches. Apparently a yellow jacket got inside, about 5 minutes later as I pulled over for regroup, my left bicep under my jersey started to burn. Pulled up & rolled my jersey sleeve back, out flew a yellow jacket.

On my 4th or 5th ride ever I had a dragonfly got stuck in my helmet vent. It freaked me out so much, that I threw my helmet & did not notice my sunglasses came off. When I figured out my sunglasses were awol they had been run over by a car. Been hit in the face & lip by large insects a few times however I am not sure what type insect & was not stung.

I had that happen to me when I was a kid. It hurt. A lot. I now have an irrational fear of the entire hymenoptera order.

Wasp sting to the upper lip. It got so swollen so fast that I thought my lip was going to split open. They administered some sort of steroid for the swelling and I had to taper off of it for three weeks.
