I wouldn't get a black bike for myself, but that one is mighty slick - I'm going to give it a HOT.

The group and wheels are plenty identifiable, but who made the frame?! Maybe it's just that bright Arizona sunshine, but the finish looks really nice - sort of satiny.

I also like the red saddle, and not just because it's compatible with the accents elsewhere. Lots of folks will go for colored bar tape to add interest or make their bikes distinctive, but having a colored saddle make slightly more sense in my book. There's more reason for it to stand out, because it is the least like the rest of the bike to begin with. If you think about it, a bike could work without a saddle at all (see trials bikes), so even though the bars and pedals are also "contact points," the saddle is uniquely accommodating - the bike doesn't need you to sit down. Another advantage to making the saddle rather than the bar tape light or bright colored is that the saddle doesn't get grubby as readily as bar tape does.

It’s a 2015 Evo Hi-Mod. Last year I got hit and both myself and the Evo suffered some pretty good wounds. Decided to have the frame repaired and didn’t want to hide the fact that it’d been patched with a new paint job so I sanded/razored the frame and fork then put a satin clear over it.

I’ll try and get a better shot at some point, it was very bright out when I snapped that one

What kind of damage did the bike take on and about how much to repair? Also, what was the paint, if any and how did you remove? Just sanded?

My bike and I sustained a bit of damage as well. The head tube ripped open down and into the down tube. I've replaced the bike since, but the old one has a full groupset and most everything except will need a new stem, bars, and saddle. Seems a shame to go to waste if a repair and repaint may be affordable.

We're lucky to have a great carbon guy in Phoenix and the repair was only 250

The downtime was cracked on the non-drive side by the water bottle bolts


As for the paint, the bike was a black/grey model and I tried CarboLift but that didn't really work that well. I then started to hit it with 180 grit sandpaper and that worked but takes forever. The best method was using a razor blade and dragging it across the paint. That worked way faster and was easier to deal with than a bunch of paint dust from sanding. In total it took about 20 hours to do and saved 20g on the fork and 90g for the frame. It was a fun project to keep my mind busy while I healed and am super happy with the results but not sure I'd go through at again.
