Great bike. How much does it weigh?
I think those BikesDirect Fens cost $700 shipped. I have an earlier blue one that I'm just now replacing the wheels on and want to get a compact crank to replace the triple. They really ride smoothly. |

My fens still weighs in at just under 22 lbs with it race ready (No bottles, no saddle bag, etc). Definitely not the lightest bike but it gets the job done. I will most likely upgrade at the end of the season. If I could drop 5 lbs on the bike, that would help a ton (since I weigh 140lbs and can't really lose much more). At least I got it looking somewhat good though.

I respect a wallet bike, I prefer building them myself though... But I dont know, a nice Moots or an older Litespeed may get me there too... |

I respect a wallet bike, I prefer building them myself though... Oh I built the bike myself. In fact this is its third or fourth incarnation....7800 then 6600 then back to 7800 then SR11 then 7900.... By wallet bike I mean there is nothing on it that is custom built or has any panache like a fancy Pinarello frame or Lightweights. My bike looks like any other bike on any bike rack at any LBS and thats just fine by me :) |
Sorry - posting this in a few pertinent threads. My latest build at 15.3 pounds:

that makes me so sad :( my bike is 17.75 lb and it is the new 2011 allez.....if it wasnt for the stupid tapered fork, I could lose an easy 200g+ (the fork weighs 620g)....

You could save 320+ grams with the LTD fork, just a matter of waiting until it's being sold(not long I guess). |
holy crap thats a big difference! but probably costly too.....

for about $375 I can lose 1 lb. though after that, it starts to get expensive :( |

for about $375 I can lose 1 lb. though after that, it starts to get expensive :( For example, a $1800(probably less at the store) CAAD 10-4 is 7.7 kilos(17lb flat), so you can get it UCI illegal for less than $1000, that's great at the "beginner" WW level. That's around $2500 for a 6.8kg bike. Impossible to find in a stock bike(they'd be over 7 kilos at $3500-$4000). If you are getting more radical, you seriously need to sell what you have and do a ground-up ultimate WW build, trying to spend as close to $1 per gram as possible. With a Scott Addict frame (~800) and fork (~300) for $2600, you could end up with a bike VERY close to 5 kilos (11 pounds) for $5k total. There's a lot of people here and in the WW forums saving 200 grams off of a 7 kilo bike for hundreds of dollars, when they could scrap everything and build up an addict from the ground up to astonishing weights. |

The thing about weight weenism is that it's absurdly expensive unless you already have a kick ass starter bike.

Though give me a S2 frame base and I'd be happy. |

keep an eye on Ebay. a lot of tapered forks are showing up. including Tarmac's. if you don't need a lot of steerer, you can get them for dimes on the dollar. that 3T LTD will be more $ than your frame.
A lot of money but low on the dollar-per-gram scale. |

I thought I posted this bike in the thread but did a quick search and didn't see it. If it is a repeat I apologize. This came up in a BD thread thought it'd be fun to show what you can do with a BD bike. Note the cranks. :)
