Hot r Not

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

LOL. I didn't realize opinions count as fact. Or, only your opinions count and no one else's.

Yeah, that's pretty hot, but an S-Works crank would look 100xs better, and those wheel stickers are a bit loud. The seat bag needs to go as well. Correct those issues, and then you have one hot Specialized. That is a Roubaix correct?

Seat Bag stays when I am on a ride. No real choice there and yea the wheel decals are a bit loud but we are a HED dealer so they may not appreciate me defacing their wheels

So why no S Works cranks?

Well, IMO - which means, in my opinion - I like the Allez for what it is, and not for what it's not. It's a gateway bike for future roadies/racers and still passes the muster for even diehard roadies on Thur night rides - as opposed to a poseur Walmart bike. And in that role is why I think the bike is hot.

Now if this thread is simply what "looks" hot - which is still opinion-based - then let's just set the benchmark to anything >$5K and be done with it.

I purchased my Roubaix as a frame and fork which only comes as a threaded BB and the S-Works crank only comes as a BB30 only. I would have had to buy a complete bike or a module to have gotten the Spec crank.

It has nothing to do with cost, it has to do with style. There have been many old steel bikes in this thread that I doubt have a value of over 2k but are simply gorgeous in there execution. See the below bike as an example as a Hot budget build....

That is Hot. I was told my Trek is hot too, and I have less than 2k in it. It's mostly a bunch of hand me down parts. Although the parts are worth more than that.

You could always use a Lightning, Zipp, or Rotor 30mm BB and toss an S-Works crank on there. More than one way to skin a cat. BTW I clicked the link in your sig, and I really liked it allot better with the Campy crank.

Thanks... It's a knog boomer on the seat post. The reflector was much needed for the evening ides around my parts but it will come off soon for the summer. The rest of the stickers I haven't gotten around to. Maybe this weekend.

Interesting to see how this thread reacted. I like the little updates on my Allez (stem, bars, tires, etc) and in my opinion, price has nothing to do with how "Hot" a bike is. Given, I'm a newbie to riding, and haven't spent a ton of money on my bike, but I definitely love the older steel bikes and think they are just as hot as if someone posted a Shiv up here. I just thought hot was an opinion. I am really into a lot of bike types, but I thought hot or not was a completely face value, look/style thing. That's just my opinion - has nothing to do with my Allez (which is why I joke about asking for trouble).

I hated my Trek, when it still had Shimano on it. I still covet Campy however. One of these days, I am gonna build a Bianchi or a Colnago with SR11. I'll never go back to Shimano.
