pardon the mismatched cages, and ugly handlebars: it was a budget build. if only the 50cm top tube were a little bit longer...didnt feel like commissioning a custom seatpost...but if i still had it, i probably would. i loved this bike. it had much potential. notice the 37cm chainstays. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...107235-800.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...813951-800.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...314666-800.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...017210-800.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...677361-800.jpg |

My tri-geek contribution. I am planning to get the new "beyond black" Zipp decals and I've got to cut the steerer down, but otherwise it's pretty utilitarian--a comfortable and powerful aero position won over sexiness on this build. Argon's geometry ended up being a decent match for my somewhat funky measurements.

Why not just buy a longer seatpost and cut the bottom of the seatpost off at the rite height.
the top tube was only 50cm; i needed more offset, and nobody had what i needed. even a selle smp (longest usable rail length) didnt work. needed a little bit more. thus, i did not feel like spending about $200 on a saddle and $100 or more on a quality custom seatpost. |
Got you. Thought you meant because of the shape of the seat tube, you couldn't get one that was the right height. Didn't even occur that you'd want the seat further back.

I'm sure there's an anatomical reason for the setup on that Argon. But with the bars that far above the top tube it's a definite Not.
Also, a compact on a TT/Tri bike. Yuck. |
I agree ancker. not

He's from Illinois. I'm with you Pete. I live where there isn't more than 100ft of level road. The races don't magically avoid the hills simply because people want their bikes to look cool. ;) Sweet ass ride Pete as always. Dress to Impress ;)

I made this chart once to compare the difference in speeds in mph at 90rpm in each gear. A 50-11, is still taller than a 53-12. Which I found interesting when I first figured that out. I run a compact on all my bikes now after this realization.

Yeah, much better to be uncomfortable and have gearing that's totally useless for the hilly Tri courses near home. On second thought I'll gladly take your disdain. You must use that 53/11 quite a bit.
Others may disagree, they have that right. The bike probably works absolutely great for you. That's awesome. I hope that you get thousands of wonderful miles on it this year. But in a thread dedicated to subjective opinions about the looks of a bike, I give it a not. No disrespect was intended. Also, I don't have to be able to effectively utilize the power of a Ferrari to appreciate its beauty. |

I don't own a garage door. This is what you get, carport.

That Argon has got way too much sh-- going on that says "I'm a triathlete!" for my taste. For instance, there are the butt rocket water bottles, and some kind of appendage on the aero bars for eating and drinking. And there's that heavily nose-padded seat that just says "come here, Speedo!"
On the non-correctable side, the head tube has a lot of trailing material that may or may not have any aerodynamic advantage. On the correctable side, I am troubled by the vast amount of spare steering tube and spacers above the stem. I too find fault with the compact crankset for a TT bike. I find fault with a 53/39. I like to see the A-Type crankset with some 177.5s or 180s. I'm running a 55/42. Big wicked Dura-Ace 7800 like some insane surgical tool. That's the Shi-- that Will Kill Them. Lastly, what's with the Argon name? A heavy nonreactive gas? But yes votes on the black and white Cannondale road bike, the vulgar Purple Rain Klein and the Oakley Cannondale MTB. |
