Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The stealth black version of this bike was $300 more. couldnt afford it

Sounds like you are suggesting to go back to basics.. thought i'd try the red tape since the white was impossible to keep clean Will probably go for black. this is what it looked like originally. Cant do anything about the groupset

It has potential. try fizik microtex bartape. have a lot of colors and the material holds up really well. Mine has lasted me about 5k miles so far and they are still in really good condition. They have a really light grey option that would be an option for you. I wouldn't go black or red with that bike.

If you get black tape, switch to a black saddle. 99.9% of the time saddle and tape should match to earn a 'hot'. Also, don't take anything said on this thread personally.

In general I don't think light coloured frames look very good with the dark grey Shimano cranks, but there you go.

The perspective on this shot makes the bike look much more nicely proportioned. I now give it a Cholula rating.

can I solicit opinions on an upcoming bike build?
i'm getting a custom steel frame. I want it to be timeless and classy, and NOT the same black/red/white that every bike has. There are some really nice blues available, but I'm not sure i want a 100% blue frame.

I'm currently considering the following:
Anthracite Gray Metallic frame
Black carbon fiber fork/stem
White handlebar tape, cables, and decals
Anodized blue (e.g. Chris King) brakes/headset/BB

so, basically, metallic gray with a few dashes of blue.

I also have the option of chroming the chainstays/seatstays/lugs, but i'm leaning against it.

Here is the thread where i've been discussing it so far:
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ions-(big-pics)

would it be hot or not?

Its amazing that without the fred'tarded TT bars, different colored bar tape and bag, it looks like a totally different bike.

Well the name may be odd, but i love the ride and what it helps me achieve: I am new to road bikes.

I was not big on budget, was out to get $1,000 bike when i saw this CUBE $2500 retail down to Clearance of $1500. Same bike with stealth paint was 10% higher priced so i stretched to this and am i glad i did! ..I may end up with a CAAD10 by end of year though since i too am a follower of the "Cult of CAAD".

Not likely. You threw on a heavier stem and handlebar, plus an aero bar on top of that. Wheels weigh about the same. Should throw on pedals to for a real world weight

I've been curious about those frames for some time though, seeing as I can't get a Canyon over here.

Everything I've read about them has been positive. For example, review of the new version of the Agree.

Yeah that's the carbon version though, I'm looking at their alloy frames.
