Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

interesting... i'm not a fan of the beyond blacks at all! i actually had to special order the falcon grey, and wait a couple of weeks to get it. the beyond blacks were readily available.

have to see say, they are absolutely incredible! the hubs spin like butter, and the cross-wind handling is exceptional.

very pleased with the purchase. i'm acutally even tempted to get a set of tubulars for racing.

I like the Falcon grey with the silver spokes and all, but I like the Beyond Black stickers better. I've just never liked black spokes for some reason. If you think your hubs spin good now. Tear them apart, and clean all the grease out, and repack them with Rock N Roll Lube Super Web Grease. They will then spin even smoother, and faster. I did mine over the winter when I glued my new tires on, and put the new stickers on. Mine are 2010 non-Firecrest, but they roll like brand new. I rode my Spinergys on my S2 today. I most definitely could notice the extra .9lbs of wheels. I for one say do it. Buy yourself some tubies.

This is it. I'm stopping here (I think). I'm in the 15lb limbo area. I can't really reduce any significant weight without dropping alot of cash. I'm going with narrower bars, but thats it.

Cervelo S2 54cm
SRAM Red: Shifters/rear derailleur. Rival front. K Edge chain catcher. KMC x10SL gold chain
Ciamillo Negative GSL brakes
Misc Shimano M-System cables (switching to Gore shifter and Nokon brake cables when bar arrives)
Rotor 3D crank with round ring 53/38 (SRAM inner)
SRAM 1070 12-27 cassette
Speedplay Zero Cromoly
Ritchey WCS stem (switching to Zipp SC SL)
Easton EC90 SLX bars (switching to Zipp CSL)
Fairwheel Bikes pink top cap
Specialized Romin Comp (steel rail) saddle (I love the gel)
Zipp 404 FC tubular wheels
Vittoria Corsa CR tires
Ebay China carbon cages
Garmin 500

Hot, you are incorrect though. For $70 you can get ti spindles for your pedals, and that will drop 64g. That's almost a dollar a gram.

Overall hot but I'd go with a black stem. Also you can lose about 80 grams fairly cheaply by getting aftermarket titanium spindles for your Zero pedals. Little bit of a pain to replace though due to the locktite Speedplay uses on the screw you need to remove to take the pedal body off of the spindle.

Is there an inaccurate echo in here?

edit* Just saw you're going with a Zipp stem - good choice. I'd do the beyond black version.

It's okay, I think it is funny we both essentially posted the same thing, at almost the same time. I had old pics of when I did mine on my computer, so I found the exact weight. I thought it was closer to 80g too before I looked it up.

I'd go with a different stem. The diameter of the stem looks thicker than any tube on the bike. still a sweet bike for sure.

It's borrowed -10deg, it's a PRO Vibe triangular shaped stem 'for stiffness' and at only 120g can't complain. Most stems are heavier, S-works and Thompson are pigs. Enve, Ritchey have useless angles. I'm still 3cm higher than the bike that I've ridden for last 3 years, so looking at -12 or -17 deg, fielding suggestions.

Retract that, Ritchey does have a WCS 17deg sub 120g even for 100mm. Ohhhhh hrmmm.

This is the nicest frame out of all the Cervelo frames, in my opinion. It's hot! I agree with Raven...change the stem to black.

Ha...I did think about the Ti spindles...I've been thinking about it for a while...but never acted on it. I'm going in circles with weight. I'm adding about ~100gr by going from my EC90(195gr) to the Zipp CSL. I know I can drop weight in the saddle by going with the carbon railed Romin Pro.

I guess its all a money game and it all comes down to what your willing to spend...at this point...I don't feel like spending no more.

Maybe in a few months...I'll pop for the Ti spindles.

The white stem will go when I get the Zipp stem and bar.

quick update:

the RB-1 now has a true threadless set up. I found and extra period correct Ritchey double crown fork that had enough steerer for the threadless conversion.

new threadless headset too (cane creek classic 100 1"). I needed a setback post so I went with a Thomson Masterpiece. Looks a little funky, but I'll sacrifice the bend for better fit.

Velocals sells the proper decal set for the specific tubing (seat tube and blade decals) for the RB-1. It was only $8 w/ free shipping too! They also have all sorts of hard to find decal sets.
