Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's a useful neologism. It's certainly better than typing "integrated brake and shift levers" all the time. "Lever set" might be better, but "brifter" appears to be the popular choice.

I normally don't comment in this thread (just drool and masturbate) but does anyone else notice the resemblance of those to the push bars on the front of police cars?

I can't stand the look of those new SRAM hydro "brifters".
Another fail on SRAMs behalf.
"Push Bars" is a good observation.
Those things could help "push" you back from going over the bars if you lock up the front brake.
(Some thing hydro are notorious for)

Why didn't they take a look @ some of the hydro adaptors that are available for Cxers?
Patiently waiting for Shimano, & Campys try @ this.

My 2007 Colnago President LdV, recently updated with Campy Super Record EPS. I don't like the risen stem, so I'm going to flip it.

Specialized is a not for me,IMO the rear little "fat part" just ruins it...and they already look wayyy to thin so why put that in there. And I hate the hoods..however I'm sure they are plenty good for doing the job

I'm just going to leave this here:
Erect ZIPP stem, valve caps, lights, small ring.

otherwise, looking great!

+1 love the bike but so many things make it a not for this thread. Maybe the angle of the pic makes the stem look higher, don't know. Very cool bike, and I like it.

I test rode a non-SW a few years ago, and it was super flexy IMO. For the thread, gets a HOT from me but not a bike I lust over like many, or most others in this thread. The new brakes look weird to me, and i have 2 bikes w/ old RED brakes and they are awesome, so not sure if the new hydro brakes can be that much better, or fit my hands better. I like the early 12 red hoods better then the last year RED (w/ new yaw FD) as they seemed more narrow and did not fit my hand as well. Until I test ride the new RED, open mind I guess?

you cant really compare the two though. Thats like saying you test drove a toyota 4 Runner 4 cylinder and because it lacked power, you dont like any of the 4 Runner models even though a V8 would be a completely different experience.

I couldn't flex my 2011 Tarmac SL3 no matter how hard I tried...not that I'm a powerful guy...just at the time a 190+ lb lardass...maybe dem Roubaix is another story though...

I'm curious how they're accommodating the forces from the disc brake with the Zertz still in the equation. Seems like it would really add to the asymetrical twist issues under heavy braking.

A 4runner with a V8 from the factory would be pretty damn sweet!

Not sure if he meant flexy as in the brakes, or the frame.

I got a chance to check out those hydro brakes at Sea Otter...all I can say is that they feel awesome. If you live in an area where you are doing long descents...they are totally worth it.

Every time I switch from my mountain bike (using Shimano XT M785 brakes) to my road bike...it reminds me how much cable actuated rim brakes suck.

LBS sales rep/BG fit guru did ride the SW Roubaix and the pro (or comp, not sure which one I rode) and told me the seat stays and forks where very similar. Earlier this year, I did see the new SW with the crazy seat post but did not ride it. The Velo test did say the frame was one of the stiffest they had tested. Stiff is different then vertical compliance and that, is what I did not like and felt flexy to me.

There is a post on WW on comp vs SW venge, and most folks saying an SW is not worth the $ but they had not rode one, or any venge for that matter. About the only bike I have rode several version of is a cervelo S5. Been there test rode base rival, team Ui2 and VWD RED on my own wheels, and yes, base was a tank (heavy, slow shifting but dang the white frame is sexy), while IMHO, the team was ok but I was not a fan of Ui2. The RED was awesome, lite and yes, noticeably stiffer.

Side note, all V8s are not equal. My truck has a 320? HP hemi, but my Z06 has a 460 RWHP LS6. That can be compared and yes, they are night and day. Thanks and ramble is off
