And, Mrs. Fred complained that the generic carbon cages I put on her bike are "too tight" compared with the old stretched out alloy ones she previously had.

Really? I've got carbon cages and they've never marked up my bottles, they've never broken, and yep they're light and look good. Seriously, do some cages have problems with all of these things?? I ride with a bunch of guys and I think they all have carbon cages and no one ever has a broken cage or drops a bottle unless they drop it…?? Strange, it's almost like complaining about helmets falling off peoples head so they've decided to simply wear construction hardhats while cycling instead. Huh?

In certain circumstances, yes. My colnago has king Ti cages, which work very well, have the classic look, and are the same weight as carbon cages. But the classic look of the frame matches the classic look and era-appropriateness of the cages. In this case, the BMC has a very modern, non-traditional appearance that in some of our opinions, does not work as well with the classic look of the steel cage. A good carbon cage holds a bottle just as well as a stainless cage. If you are ejecting bottles with the likes of an Arundel, the problem is probably the bottle, the circumstances surrounding the bumpy conditions or the crash, or user error and not the cage.

Ironically, I have those same cages on my fixed gear and they don't hold my bottles very well. Not as nicely as my arundels anyway. Speaking of which, have you guys heard about the arundel cages?

I was heavily considering another BMC in my stable (this was my target or the TMR02), but I've had 2 warranty issues in the past that I can't overlook. CC came through with no issues though. Also selling my SLR01 today.
Nice bike!

Elite Custom Race, tried and true, pro-approved. Hold bottles well, cheap, good looking. You can even get them in black with white and red details to match your frame.
Thanks!, they are amazing bikes. From what I've heard, BMC was kind of a pain to deal with a few years back. However, it's actually run by BMC USA rather than a distributor nowadays so warranties don't seem to be an issue.

If you were to throw on a black seatpost, stem, tape and different bar shape, that bike would be pretty sweet. I say sell the seatpost, stem, bars and saddle you have on there now and apply that money towards what I suggested above. Thats a great bike, just needs to attention to make her shine!
