I think that Merckx might look better with a -10 or -17 stem. It would blend with the line of the bent top tube more perhaps... that said, to keep the same drop it would need some spacers.

Great bike I'm sure and I dont mean to take any wind out of your sail, but aesthetically I just dont find it to be pleasing. Dont like the geometry nor the paint scheme. The bartape doesn't really compliment or flow with the bike. Dislike the tower of spacers below/on top of the stem (Though with it being new, I would guess you may take care of that?)
Hope you enjoy it though!

The picture doesn't quite do the bar tape justice... its Lizard Skin and color in person almost seems to match the gray frame and its super comfortable. Geometry wise, I get your comment. Running a -17 degree stem would make it look odd I think. I just got comfortable with the bar height...just making sure before we trim it down. Seems like a lot of people don't like the looks of them - but the ride is pretty sweet...... ohhhhhhh and fast, if you're into that sort of thing.

is it the lizardskin 1.8 dark grey/light grey tape? If so, i can see where it would match. I personally dont care for the look of -17 deg stems, so that wouldn't have helped IMPO. As long as you love it, thats all that matters

Merckx is hot, though I really don't like the "hunchback" look of that top tube.

Yes, I confuse a lot of people; sorry.
Lets just say, imo a very different/unique bike, but very very hot for this thread's standards. I'd love to ride and be able to afford that ride.

If you use the double arrow next to the quote in my post, you'll see that I quoted you on the Cervelo S5... in which the original poster clearly states
re: the Merckx, the rims aren't bare, but the image is too grainy to be able to read the ghosted decals well enough to identify them

Ah, whoops. When I had referenced the link on my phone the image cut out the text portion so I never saw that. My bad
