Yes, George Hancock please check THE RULES. Bicycles should always be photographed with the chain on the big dog. This bike looks unattractively cross chained. Also cranks look better in a diagonal position, not level like this. And yep, that RD cable is too long. The background isn't great either.

I judge the saddle bag in this thread, since it's strictly about aesthetics, but I definitely see its utility. I usually use one on centuries and just stuff my pockets during normal rides.

Me too. But if you're going to photograph your bike for posting esp. hot-r-not, take off the saddle bag, put the chain on the big dog, consider crank placement and background. It doesn't take long.

OK Super Moderator, I take your point, though I doubt I'm alone in my opinion. Take a look at any photos of bikes advertised brochures etc and I'm sure most will have the chain on the big ring and cranks not at 180 degrees. C'mon what honestly looks better to you: a pic showing the money side with the chain on the big ring so the rear derailleur is extended more-or-less downwards, or the chain hiding on the small ring and, especially if cross chained, the derailleur all crunched up on itself behind the axle? I'd post two pics side by side, but I think you see my point. It takes very little time to set it up right.

Me too - shorter rides maybe I'll carry a tube and mini tool in my Jersey, but long rides away from home gotta go seat bag, use the jersey pockets for food, cellphone etc.. Gotta get the GEAR!

Who the frack cares if someone physically types "IN MY OPINION". When someone posts a hot or not and chooses to give the reasons why, that is their opinion. Nobody here is speaking on behalf of anyone else, including myself.

OK look you've got a nice bike, you've got the hubris to post it on a Hot r Not thread, so you're hoping for comments and they'll probably mostly be complimentary, but perhaps not all. Ok so I don't think showcasing your steed with the chain on the small ring and the derailleur all folded up looks so hot. You're taking the trouble to photograph your steed and post it online and you're wanting your baby to look it's best, so clean it up, sort it out, remove bags and bidons and yes put the chain in the manly big ring, let the derailleur be seen cage down in all it's glory, and line up the cranks smartly. Go back and look at the pic of that bike, it looks to me like the chain is on the second to smallest cog, which is pretty cross chained, and perhaps a gear it should never be in period. I assume you're with me on the never ever put the chain on the small ring / small cog or big ring / large cog combos. Are we straying from opinion to fact?
OK so it's my opinion. As bianchi10 (King Hoternot) points out - duh. Isn't that what's being solicited on a Hot r Not thread - opinions? I don't need to state "in my opinion" nor do I need you to add "in my opinions" all over my post.
And yes the Velominati are entertainment, although I'm not sure how tongue-in-cheek they really are at heart, I think they do take their rules semi-seriously (and there's at least a grain of truth in most of The Rules - even if exaggerated for comic effect).

In my opinion, someone investing enough time to photograph and post their bike, should, at the very least, perform the little things that cost absolutely nothing to make their bike attractive. Rather than expecting us to look beyond these short comings in judging the hotness of their bike.
This doesn't represent dogma or velominati rules. It represents the adherence to good aesthetics. You see most the bike adds using similar approaches. Not because the velominati say so, but, because it helps make a bike look good.
