Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In all seriousness I love the 2008 (?) Orca, very nice. Seems like less of a drop to the StreetFire, get a fitting?

Rollin the first thoughts of upgrading had the 2009 Pro Machine at the top of my list, it's a great bike for sure but outside the scope of the budget I had to work with so the deal on the Orca made it a no brainer. Having ridden both they were on par in terms of ride quality and I was able to take both bikes out for more than just a loop around the parking lot using the same wheelset to get a better feel for what they would be using my equipment. I had an Orbea Onix which I sold in order to help pay for this one and I liked that bike as well but when I got it I made the mistake of not listening to my gut so I was talked into a 54cm when I needed to be on a 51cm and nothing I could do to the 54 would get the fit I felt I needed. I also tried out the Scott Addict and the Cervelo R3, which were both really good though the R3 was the winner between the two. As for the fit you have a good eye because there is a slightly shorter drop from the BMC but still feels aggressive enough so I'll keep it this way for now and make changes (if any) as I ride it more. Oh, and yes it is a 2008....closeout deals can be a beautiful thing!

Nothing like having a bike that's a couple of cm too big.

Good choice, ride the wheels off it!

As requested, here's a couple more shots. This one is a large frame and weighs 16.8 lbs after upgrades (Ksyrium SL's, stem, seatpost, saddle, handlebar). Everything replaced was Kore. Good product but wanted better parts.

Couldn't afford an Orbea Orca at the time so I went with the Goose. No complaints...

Actually the closeout was from Orbea itself, you just need an authorized dealer to have the frame delivered to. Oh yes, Freds and fixie hipsters beware...your souls will be crushed on the Greenway..

I posted this bike a few pages back. Recently found out that it's an X81 colnago paint scheme. Probably from the early to mid 90's.

Nice bike - I've always liked Masis.

Do you happen to know if they are using proprietary molds or generic ones?

Mike - molds for the frame? By looking at the seatstays I'm gonna say proprietary.

My thoughts exactly. I had a 2003 Masi Gran Criterium Al/CF frame that I really liked. Gave it to one of my athletes who was looking to get into cycling to complement his running. Now, he really like it. I regularly drool over the the 3VC Team frame.

Don't think you need an Orca. Read some great things about that Mongoose online. 2010 Sram Force would look awesome on that frame.

IMO, the ride is great.
Of course, I'm coming from a Specialized Allez (Sora/Tiagra) that I've been beating on for a few years. I decided to treat myself with somethig nice so I gathered all the parts and had this one built.
Granted, I don't have a huge stable of rides to compare this one against, but I love the hell out of it.
