Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Probably about to get grilled in my own thread but I haven't posted a bike here in a loooooong time. Just picked this up today. Forgive the fredly amount of spacers as I'm still working on the fit, although even with them it has a healthy saddle to bar drop.

Back To The Beginning
Of this thread I mean. I think mine is a year older than the TCR in that first post.
No action on this thread for a bit, decided to provide an offering.
Thought I'd memorialize a vintage TCR before it is eventually retired. I started cannibalizing recently for my latest build - thought I was retiring it, but on close inspection by myself and the shop it is still structurally sound and no reason not to ride it. Never been crashed.
So replaced the pillaged parts and now it's now gonna be mostly a commute bike. It was pretty leading edge back in the day, but lacks the front end stability of the new generation. It does, however, have something I covet - a threaded bottom bracket. Geez I miss those.

Pedal Force RS-2 Frameset

My first bike build, still needs to be fitted. I've put 50 miles on it in the last two weeks and it feels pretty comfortable. I'm 5' 9" 265# so there wont be much of a drop anyways.

Not. This one looks like a nice black Pony. Your saddle to bar negative drop makes me wonder if your frame fits or if you would be better of using a cruiser, for such ratio you should be using a seat like this selle royale, Im sure your back angle would be like 60 degrees at most. I like the frame though...

The rise on that stem and the angle of the drops detract a bit from the looks but if it fits and works for you then it is what it is. However, that loop on the rear derailleur cable seems excessive. Also, hopefully you're not riding around in such a cross-chained combo all the time.

Awesome components/ build; there may seem to be excessive rd cable length, but I think SRAM says 36cm is correct, which looks like a lot on some frames.

Saddle position will change a bunch as you become accustomed to a better fit.

Bar at height is defined by flexibility and not kneeing your stomache... This will change

however..... What is on your front Valve stem?!?!?!?!?!?

I had just finished sizing the chain when I took that picture, that's the reason for the extreme cross chain gearing. The loop seems excessive but everything from Sram says it needs to be longer then what most are used to. I even watched some videos from Sram and all the bikes setup by them using Red or Force groups have long RD cabling.

Not sure if the suggestion of a woman's cruiser seat is sarcasm, an honest joke, or a serious suggestion? The current fit is set for being comfortable using the lowest point on the bars. I'm not a typical sized rider (never will be). I primarily strength train, and started biking to cut some weight. I bench 400#, 90# dumbbell preacher curl, 1300# leg press, 52" chest, 18.5" arms, and an 40" gut! The goal is to get back to a 30"-32" waist, I'll never be under 225 as long as I can continue to train, so my bike setups will always reflect that. I suspect I'll have more of a drop when I hit my goal waist size.

I got a damn good deal on it! It's the only carbon I've ever ridden so I can't speak to how good or bad it may be, but I like it.

Thanks,

We seem to be very much on the same pages, with a handle like BigJeff I suspect you understand where I coming from.

Hah, that's my Presta to Schraeder valve adapter, I somehow ended up with a gold one.

In any case, is the newly installed compact crank too dark and does it clash too much with the old Dura Ace stuff?

(Further disclaimers: I am old and I have short arms, so I don't care what anyone says about the stem spacers. The tire logos are deliberately placed opposite the valve stems to irritate weenies).
I understand having a lighter bike helps with climbing, but shaving weight by removing the pedals may have been excessive

Submitted for your approval: The frame is a Bikes Direct "Motobecane" titanium job. Motobecane haven't made a bike since 1981, so off came the decals. The company that made the frame is ORA Engineering. The shop is 5 km from my ancestral home and is located in same city where I was born. Obviously, not a stock bike from Bikes Direct. In fact, the only original part is the headset. The wheels are of my own build, sourced from BHS. The saddle looks nose down, but it's actually level.

Here's one with some red on it. I got the frame from a buddy who got it new back in the day. He rode it a couple of times, didn't like it, tore it down, and it sat in his garage for 8 years. I got it from him covered in cobweb and dust. The frame was basically brand new after I cleaned it up.

I think it's hotter than most bikes put in this thread! Thin tubes are sexy to me.

That's wild. I like the boldness of it, but ironically think it looks best with the lower profile (ordinarily less bold) wheels. The Cosmics are not doing you any favors - they look kinda sad there.

The understated elegance of this bike really makes it stand out in this thread. Very sharp, clean build.
