Ready for some spring cobbles...

they work better and are simpler. you could make the same arguments for the rear, but being able to switch the rear from the bars is a huge advantage.

A lot of riders did it before Armstrong, including Pantani and Ullrich but most notably Zulle and Jalabert with team ONCE...

Very very pretty. I once read that in the early days Lance did the DT front shifter thing to save weight.

Weight wasn't the main reason: those early Shimano STI front shifters were hard to fine-tune. Riders used a down tube shifter on their climbing bikes to avoid chain rub on the front derailleur.

The levers are too high. But that is where he was most comfortable on the hoods. He also picked the splash. Kids....

Not hot, but mostly because of the setup of the saddle and bars(the handlebar setup issue could be just due to the photograph).
In fact now that I put the shorter quarq cranks on there I should be OK'd for raising the saddle up another 5mm in a few weeks. It's lower than optimal for knee extension/flexion, but if you optimize for that my tracking goes to crap. So this for now while I learn a different stroke technique, shorter cranks, 10mm longer stem, and then after I get used to (and loosen up my hamstrings) then we can go up to the proper seat hight. |
