Be gentle!!
Thrown together quickly with available parts, and the saddle isn't a match but oh-so-comfortable that I had to keep it for now.
Painted by me, so I put in 3 photos to give you a better idea what I was shooting for (Gibson Les Paul 'Tobacco Burst' color).
Apologies for the dreadful photos.

Nice work. The only two things I question are, the saddle position and the excess cabling for the RD. Have you tried shorting the RD cable? It might give you a quicker shift if you did. Oh, and I do not care for gumwall tires, but that's just me.:thumb:

Nice frame, but a disgusting steer stack height. And with the amount of seatpost showing, it leads me to believe that this frame may be too small for you? Try some better wheels if you can, it's such a nice frame to see those on it.

Have to agree. Frame looks beautiful, but way too much seat post and stack. And 105 on a V1-R is just wrong. :foo:

Thanks for the kind words and critics. The paint job was a pain in the butt. Especially the black line. I don't have steady hands like those pros that use thin brushes. Masking tapes and spray paints all the way.

To address some of the critics. Saddle and seat post position are based on my fit done by my LBS. A big supporter on short crank length (165mm, my inseam is 30in) and more forward position.

RD cabling is based on my exp in cx racing. I had a shorter cabling before. When it got dirty especially on the cable stop, the shifting got harder due to dirt getting into the housing and smaller curve radius. Sometimes it didn't respond to my shifting inputs. With a more generous curve, it has been performing better. If you google cx bikes, e.g. Jeremy Powers' bike, you'll see that this setup is very common in cx racing.

The tires are kenda kwest commuter. They aren't cotton side walls. They colored it. I have a separate set of tubular wheels for racing only.

This. I have 175mm on my bike now because I hated the OEM's on the bike and got a deal on them. Feels like I'm turning boxes. I much prefer 170's (6' w/32" inseam) which I'll probably change to in the next month or so.

wicked paint job. no comment on groupset stratification as aesthetics transcends price.

too much spacers and the bars are a bit off (from this viewing angle)... still lands at 9.5/10 and a round of applause

Thanks for the kind words!
For clarification, I traded some services for the frame, and used parts that I had on hand (from another bike) to build this one up.
I agree with everyone about the spacers, they will be dealt with.
Angle of photo makes the seat post look like it's a million miles up, but actually it well within the "gauge" on the back, and it fits me very nicely (long legs/short arms freak). Angle also makes the bars appear stupidly larger than the bike.
Can't believe no one has slammed me on the tires yet

Prankster, that paint looks great! How'd you do the decals? Custom? It's a real Vr-1, right?

Kudos for the Gulf livery homage though. I love it. Especially of you're racing. :thumb:

Debating getting new tires (it came with new Schwalbe Lugano - 700 x 23c). Other than that I don't plan on any upgrades.

0 points. Stock photo. Should immediately be removed from the thread.

Is this actually a Colnago? It looks like a generic open frame to me. Also if it is a Colnago, that is the most generic looking branded frame I have ever seen... Seriously... generic... so boring. Frankly it looks like my old Flyxii FR322, a 4 year old generic open-frame. Also that stack. I saw someone mention V1R... Collaboration with Ferrari to make the most generic branded frame ever? My ass, they just paid Ferrari to use their brand.

I had 165 on the 105 5700. For 5800, went up to 170.

Actually, it's not a manufacturer stock photo. That is my actual bike. Photo was taken however by TPC. I don't even think a manufacturer complete bike stock photo exists, since they were sold as framesets. And it certainly wouldn't have the equipment my bike does.

The rules of this thread says: "Post a pic of your bike and then let folks reply with quote of hot...r not. Simple eh?"

That is a pic of MY bike.

Thanks.

No decals. Making tapes, sand papers, several cans of Rustoleums, patience and several glasses of Tullamore DEW. 😁

EDIT: The frame above is NOT a Colnago, but my frame is. Just noticed it did a funky "quote".

It's an honest to goodness Colnago V1r. The frames just aren't that snazzy once you remove the decals and stuff.

BTW, I fixed the stack (sort of). Moved a spacer above the stem (which I was told is actually better for the stem to grab the steerer?). Now it looks only slightly less dorky.

The Colnago/Ferrari thing goes way back, but past the fact that they use the same CF that Ferrari uses, I just don't see much else that says "Ferrari" besides the decal (and I was hesitant about putting those on there, but I needed to make it look stock).

We would have called that color "root beer" back in the day. I'll admit, Gibson Les Paul Tobacco Burst sounds slightly more fitting of a Colnago. Although a quick trip to google translate reveals "birra radice" is root beer in Italian. I would be all over that.

I actually kind of think it looks alright with the exception of the huge rims, and the ICAN logos. Can't you peel those off?

Anyway, the outdated group doesn't do it any favors to be honest, but looking past it wouldn't be hard except for the mismatched crank (I dislike the aesthetics of older SRAM cranks). The bar tape matches well with the frame, a matching saddle would be optimal though.

No problem. It does say post a picture of your bike. So go outside, and take a picture of YOUR bike, and post it.

I believe you. It's just shocking how generic that Colnago looks, to me it looks like it's an open-frame rebranded.

Regardless, love the color, kudos to your paint skills. Bike is hot, I like bikes with clean lines. Your frame is still more appealing than any of the weird crap Trek and Specialized are releasing, it's like they in competition who can fit the most gimmicks and idiocy into their bikes possible for doctors and dentists who apparently have frail bodies that need every shock absorbing device possible.

I agree that it's a pretty generic looking ride. I'm glad the only trendy thing they did with it was the "aero" profiled tubes. TBH, I get blown around more by sidewinds with this rig than I ever did on my steel road bike, not sue how "aero" it actually is.

Thanks for the nice words on the paint; thought I got for the most non-Colnago-style paint I could.

Those are my crit wheels. Unless it's really windy they really help on fast, flat courses. I think they do look sharp but yeah, they are some DEEP rims. The logos are under the clear coat so I can't remove them. I would like to. I hated the OEM cranks and had that Red crank available so I stuck it on there. I'll probably put some 6800 cranks on in the near future.

But again - no excuses in the Hot or Not thread. :) It is what it is.
