Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's what I had available to swap out the stock FSA stem that was uncomfortably short (about 80-90mm; replacement Zipp is 110mm), holding off on a new stem until I get a proper fit to finalize components.

Thoughts on my Giant Contend 3? I'm thinking about getting a white seat and white tape for the handlebars.

I think the saddle you have is a good looking one and I'd be inclined to keep it if it's comfortable. As for bar tape, you might consider silver or gray instead of white.

Hah! Agreed on the pedals. Former owner also handed me some Keo Look clipless set .

I'm new to road biking so I haven't got to ordering some road shoes yet. Next thing on the to-buy list!

I've built this 53cm RIH for a girl. The Reynolds 531 frame and fork are from 1981. Campagnolo 10sp Chorus, Centaur seatpost, SanMarco Rolls saddle, 3ttt stem, Deda handlebar, Brooks leather bartape, jagwire cables, speedplay stainless pedals and wheels with tubular tires. 9.25 kg on the scales...

Finally finished restoration on this 1994 Klein Quantum II that I picked up a few months ago. I'm not normally a white saddle/tape guy, but sometimes a bike seems to call for it.

Agree on the bars, I think a classic bend would suit this bike better. Also, try some different cages.

Cages are horrible for that build. Agree on the bars. The white tape and saddle is spot on for this one.

Hot.

The below cage is nothing special, but I think they would be right for your bike.

I'm inclined to agree about the bar shape, but the bars (along with most else on the bike) are the originals. I wanted to keep the bike as stock as possible, particularly since that these pre-Trek Kleins are getting hard to find -- and this one is a little small for me, so I'll be selling it. The new owner can do as they wish, but I didn't have the heart.

I have another '94 in the "Sea & Sky" paint scheme which I ride often, and on that one I did update the whole front end (threadless carbon fork, stem, compact bars).
