Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is a work in progress. I inherited this from my Father in-law, who purchased it new in 1990. I added the STI shifters. It's a full Shimano 600 Ultegra groupset, and it's spotless. Yes, pink waterbottle cage is odd, as it was the only one spare I had, and the saddle needs to go...probably going to go with a white one to match the bars tape. It also needs new tires, but I think it's off to a pretty good start. It's a great riding old Schwinn 974! It's not a full carbon, low spoke count, race-master, but I think it's a pretty attractive ride (save for the saddle and tires)in a Miami Vice 1980's sort of way!

Thanks! It really is a gorgeous frame, all fillet brazed double butted 6061 aluminum. High tech for 1990! LOL Seriously stiff ride though!

Nice 974. My first road bike was a 564. Schwinn made some nice aluminum frames before they were bought out.

Nice, I love the older S-works frames. Pedals do kill it though, even if those aren't what you actually use.

The tape's still holding up fine despite its grey-ish tone.

It's shocking to see pics of when the saddle and tape were brand new...just a lil too pristine for my taste
