Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Those are generic chinese open mold 38mm rims from Farsports, built locally to about 1260 grams, and intended to serve as an inexpensive first foray into carbon clinchers. They've been great for 4000 miles, but if I can find a great deal a branded wheelset, I'll get myself a nice xmas present.

I really do like the look of it, and had a good idea of what to expect, since I'd seen pics of the same color scheme on a velosmith bicycle studio build. I didn't want anything too gaudy, being a stealth guy, but did add my initials which means I'm stuck with it forever. Is it a big change? Of course not, most would barely notice it. My first impression was that it makes the chinese wheels look a little cheap, though! I may spring for some eebrakes to knock off some weight, although this paint job only added about 60 grams, my weight weenie OCD is starting to kick in again.

I completely understand what you mean. 60g to most people would get a response of "just poop before a ride" type of comment, but I know where you are coming from because I am the same way.

The bike has potential but you have to stage it correctly to get a hot in this thread. Lose the bag and bottles. And what frame is that?

I agree. Not trying to make every black bike stealthed out, but I think the 4 main things that would make this look better are:

-New wheels. that is a big factor for me. I have always disliked how those wheels look
-Black saddle
-Black bartape
-Black Praxis chainrings

one of my best friends has this bike and has it all black and it look pretty good.

Pretty sure that's just white concrete and not ice. He is in Gainesville after all.

That Kestrel looks like it should be a TT bike with a much wider bladed fork and aero bars, the skinny fork and drop bars make it look awkward. I'm sure it's a fast bike, though.

Looking at BikesDirect, it appears they do in fact sell that frame (the Talon) as a road bike and a TT/Tri bike, with basically the same geometry. Interesting.
