Too creepy to bid on?

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Despite the circumstance for sale, it seems legitimate.

I prefer humor in my auctions. Sap stories turn me away. Here's my listing from last week on a watch that I won in a crit...

The story: I won this at a bike race. I am selling it because I have anorexic cyclists arms and this watch is too big for them. Not to mention I am a poor college student, who added up his racing expenses today, and realized I have spent way to much money on cycling crap, so maybe this will (slightly) offset some of the damage. Since it's from the Tour de France Festina line, I hear that the watch is incrusted in EPO, HGH, and Testosterone, making you a much better cyclist but don't quote me on that.

Likely the story in the ad isn't real. From the numbers, this person looks like he/she sells a LOT of stuff on eBay.

^ I thought that as well. So the pedals either have bad kharma attached, or the seller's a lier.

One would think you'd make up a more palatable back story.

Maybe her husband had a lot of stuff

Or it's one of those help-u-sell companies that just uses the client's description, and this one was more personal than others. I dunno.

Not creepy. Ask her if there is other stuff for sale so that she can clear out those old memories and use the $.

It does seem weird... but maybe she took up ebay selling to make money after her husband died, and that's why she has a high feedback. She's 100%, too, if you didn't notice.

Is the backstory important? It's a set of cleats. Either you buy it or you don't, but I don't see any reason not to trust the seller.

Hmmmm...

Husband spending too much on cycling gear +
Life insurance policy +
Large source of stuff to sell on ebay...

"Accident????"

In all seriousness, I am sorry for the sellers loss if it is true. However, I don't think they need to put that information in the auction. Seems like TMI to me. They're either going to creep people out, or catch sympathy bids.

Oh weird.... The auction is from my home town.

I would say that the pedals would be good luck, it's hard to die in a biking accident twice I would imagine.

The story is most likely fabricated to aid in the sale. 7000+ feedback? A power seller knows EXACTLY how to word auctions to make them seem more appealing.

Well who knows what stories out brand new bike gear would have to tell about the poorly paid people who make it...

You could tell these are some of the original X1 stock. The grease port does not have a screw and uses the first generation plastic cover.

Yup, all these people have been worrying if the stuff they bought of Ebay was stolen, and turns out it was all estate sales from killed cyclists.

Ask the seller if she'll be selling off any of her husband's old shorts or jerseys too.

Note that she has some hunting gadgets for sale which state:
"The item belonged to my husband, who was a hunter and was killed 4 years ago in a bicycling accident."
Then she also has some books and stuff for sale that don't say anything like that.
Looks to me like it's on the up-and-up. That kind of line doesn't seem to be set up for sympathy or just for creepy effect.
