What's the stupidest thing another rider has yelled at you while on a ride?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yea yea, we're all going to yell at you. You better make sure you're yelling something sensible though.

Have any of you ever heard someone yell something while in a paceline or whatever riding you do, and just had to think, "What? Did they really just yell that?"

The only time someone yelled something at me, I didn't understand what was said. :/
but then again, I've only been cycling for about a month now.

There's this guy that I see out riding at least once a week while I'm on my nightly ride. I don't know where he comes from, or where he's going. He's always riding on aero bars, but really laboring, and every time my usual pace brings me to a point where I'm rolling up pretty quickly alongside him to pass. Every time he sees me he SHOUTS something unidentifiable (to me) in an Asian language I don't comprehend, and then pours on the coals to stay ahead of me. That lasts about 60 seconds. I've gotten so that I just maintain my pace, and after about a minute of excitement he drops back and I don't see him again the rest of my ride out-and-back ride.

I always wonder; is he finishing 75 miles, and that's why I'm dropping him? Or is he doing a quick ten miler and just doesn't ride enough to keep up? Every time I pass him by I'm at nearly the same segment of road, only three miles into my nightly loop. One of these days I'm going to see if he speaks English, and get the lowdown.

I passed a guy on a popular canyon climb near me last week (more a testament to his slowness than any climbing talent on my part) and as I go by and say hello he gives me a "fu**er." That's it, just "fu**er!"

Kinda threw me until he started laughing, then it sort of made my day really.

Anything shouted out the window of a car speeding by, as it is impossible to decipher.

it's funny because when it's a compliment like "nice ass" it comes out clear as day

When at a stop a car turned right in front of me and almost hit my front wheel. I immediately gave the driver a one-finger salute. A certified Fred next sees this transpire and says to me, "Around these parts you should expect cars to do those things".

Cars do those things? And I suppose guns are like that too?

Well the first stupid thing I heard when I started riding was someone would yell "left" and I would move left to accomodate then it was followed by "f***". I just assumed it was a bike thing to yell left to make you move, then as you pass call them a f***. I did figure it out though.

People must drive more slowly where you live

I'm quite positive that my wife has at least on one occasion screamed out the window "Put on some underwear!!!" after she heard from me that we don't.

It wasn't so much yelling, but a few weeks ago I was on a group ride and as usual the group was riding
two-abreast. Among a couple of others, I was alone with no one next to me. A guy behind me asked
for me to get behind his so that he and the guy next to him could continue talking while moving ahead
in the group. It really confused me- Id never even heard of someone requesting this before.

"BANG!"

I don't know weather it was a firecracker or a backfire from this old subarau. But something or some one was trying to blow me up. It just rang my ears and I couldn't figure out what exactly it was.

was it a narrow road? were you on the riders wheel?

sometimes a warning about a car coming in the opposite direction is not such a bad thing.

now, if you want to talk about the Frediots who shout "braking", "slowing", "bump", "stopping"... that's something different.

Well, during a thunderstorm we were all taking cover under a bridge, and this one shirtless guy just rode through whooping the entire way, another shirtless guy following him shouted "He hasn't taken his medicine today!".

The four of us under the bridge just kept on staring..

I started the thread cause some guy yelled, "Either get in the paceline or get out!" I'm not sure if he was yelling this at me since we had about 20 riders in our group. To me it just didn't make sense though. If the rider is out of the paceline then they don't need to yell at them to get in it. If they're in the paceline then they don't need to yell at them to get out. As far as I know no one was being a squirrel. If anything we were on a slight descent and people were probably trying to pass.

Then about 2 minutes later there was a 180 degree turn. The leader took the turn at speed and was fine getting through. What he didn't expect was the idiots behind him who don't know how to ride through a turn who felt he cut them off. Of course they called the guy who knows how to ride a bike a f*c*ing idiot.

This morning, a car pulled along side and the passenger said "You might want to turn around, there's a big hill about 1/2 mile ahead".
