Michelin Krylion Carbon no longer being made

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How are the Conti's? Are they as good/bullet-proof as the Krylions, or just an "adequate" replacement?

THEY'RE BACK!

I still don't understand why they did this, especially with no notification to the customer base!

Word on the street was that they were moving production to Malaysia or something like that.

They got kind of expensive, though, and at that price, I'm tempted to try the Pro3Race on my fast bike.

I picked up one as a replacement for a gatorskin. Very nice tire so far.

My favorite rear tire by far. It does everything well, and does not cut up. In the front I like the P3R better.

Hmm...
Interesting idea. I have a POS lithion on the front. Perhaps I will stick a P3R on the front instead of the Krylion I was planning. I take it the handling is that much better?

They took longer to move. It messed up production.

Is there any reason to buy the Krylions over PR3 when the PR3 is a whole $0.16 more per tire at PBK? Is the Krylion that much better of a training/every day tire?

I'm going to replace my Conti 4 seasons to save what's left of their life for next winter.

Thanks.

The Krylions are really bulletproof. It all depends on the terrain where you ride. There's crap all over the streets here, so it's a HUGE benefit here. If the streets are clear where you are, it's probably not much benefit.

the term "bulletproof" to describe a tire is even dumber than referring to a wheel as "bombproof."

just sayin', skip.

I thought there was another "Krylion is dead" thread. I asked the Michelin folks at Interbike last fall and they pointed over my head at the Krylion display.

I really like the tires. Raced on them in a couple crits. Find them comfy for 100-120 mile rides (at 120 psi) on DV46 clincher wheels as well as box section aluminum rimmed wheels - and I have a SystemSix for a bike/frame.

Tires last a long time. I rode on the same roads where I cut all my PR2s a couple years ago - no flats with the Krylions. I'm conservative when it comes to riding over debris, bunny hop obvious things, and generally am easy on my equipment.

I'd much rather not flat than have a tire a few grams lighter. Not fun changing a flat, or worse, dropping out of a race because of poor equipment choice.

Yup. I love the feel/handling of the P3R, but it just cuts up/punctures too easily in the back and just wears out too fast. This combo gives me the best of both worlds.
