Thanks folks!!! My order for two 700x25 has shipped...they will go nicely with the two 700x23 I got through eBay...23 for the front, 25 on the back...for training, everyday use and not getting flats, I love this tire.

I have to agree. They aren't very responsive or resilient, but then they're not meant to be. They're a training/general purpose tire with excellent wear characteristics. What tires do you like for the above type of riding that are responsive and resilient and wear as well as the carbons ?

I don't think anyone has actually figured out if the tire is discontinued, or if production has just been interrupted.

I doubt they're discontinuing them. I'm hopeful that if they do move production of these (as mine are stamped 'Made in France') that they retain their great qualities.

Someone needs to go to the Michelin booth at Interbike, grab some Frenchie by both lapels, and bring his face about 2" away and softly through gritted teeth, ala Clint Eastwood, say: "I'll let go when you tell me when we are going to get Krylion Carbons back".

And then post on this thread what the answer is.

I just bought a pair the other day at Decathlon. They had a whole rack full of them. They seem to still be pretty easy to find here in Belgium.

We were provided similar information recently. Sounds about right.

Yes, but does that mean:

"The exact same quality of Krylion tire will be available in Jan '09"

or

"A tire with the same name but using cheaper manufacturer methods/materials will be available in jan '09"

They'll be made from the new Taiwan location, but on the machines they moved from France. As for the materials, it doesn't seem Michelin is changing to cheaper materials.

As for what the 09 Krylion will be, if there will be any improvements, it's all up in the air until its actually available.

Maybe someone else from inside the industry will have more details. Currently this is all that I can confirm.

Yeah, I noticed on our pro-deal site with Michelin that they are no longer available to order.

Send emails to anyone you can at Michelin letting them know that we need to know whats up!

If the production move thing is true, you would have thought they could have ramped up volume for ahead of time to build up a surplus inventory. I am no MBA, but letting a popular product lapse with no replacement for a number of months doesn't seem like the smartest business idea. You never want to force your loyal customers to go out and try the competing product - they just might decide they like it.

I could be wrong but i think this product lasted "too long" for their liking. It was a mid-level pricepoint (about $40), yet it lasted me 3x as long as any tire I bought that cost the same or more. So they make less money per tire and sell fewer per customer. My guess (and this is just a guess) is that they were hoping Krylion users would simply switch to their "cheaper-materials" new tires like the Lithion. I know they recommended that to me when I spoke to Michelin.

I know Krylions are a lot of people's 'go-to' tire.

If you can't get them and want a reasonable replacement, try the Serfas Seca RS (folding bead). I've had both, and actually prefer the Seca. They're inexpensive, easy to find, wear like iron, ride well and have good flat protection. If they have any down-side, I'd say they don't have quite the grip of a true race tire (Pro Race or Vittoria Open Corsa), but the grip level is on par with a Krylion.

I got them by accident on a used bike and figured I'd ditch them. After riding them, though, I'm a believer. At $25 from REI or less money online, you can't go too wrong.

Picked up some but now they're out of stock again. They only had 10 so it makes me think they probably just found some old ones lying around their warehouse.

Still no news on when these are coming back...

We've been told March. I jokingly laughed and asked '2009 or 2010?' so I hesitate to tell you they will be available for sure in march. It would really be a shame if Michelin missed the cycling season.

Some companies have seem to have found stock. For us, we've ordered the new product (2009) and have been given a soft delivery date of March.

I guess only time will tell.

You know, these are (or were) very good tires, but probably not worth the excessive wait....I have moved on to the conti gp4000s.

To replace my Krylions I got the Continental GP 4Seasons, which are okay, but are not very supple. I was thinking of getting the Continental Grand Prix 4000 Chili as the definitive Krylion replacement. Do you have the Chili, or the non-Chili Continental Grand Prix 4000? If I get GP 4000's will I too move on from Krylions?

Get the chili. You won't regret it. Better traction and ride than the Krylion....maybe not quite as flat resistant but darn close.
