I'm scared of recumbents

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The slamming was more along the lines that bents are not real bikes and thier riders are old, crippled and cant ride without wobbleing etc...BTW I'm 46 and no physical problems with either ride choice, I just like my bent better. However, if a bent allowes someone to ride who otherwise couldn't I'm all for it. Then I hear how bent riders act all superior when in fact that is not true at all. Still looking for those examples I asked for 2 post earlier...
I usually don't respond to the semiliterate ramblings of people who can't quite grasp the point, but it took three seconds to find this: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...=smoked+roadie

It's the classic self-congratulatory bent-rider wankfest because they won a "race" in which they were the only competitors.

Don't like that link? How about this one: https://www.bentrideronline.com/messa...ad.php?t=19135

More of the same.

Self congratulatory wankfest threads are as common and time honored in the Road forum as those discussing what components/accessories look best. Are you claiming such topics should be reserved for exclusive use by "traditional" roadies?

It wouldnt have mattered whether i was on a bent or not as i'm not a particularly strong cyclist - need more practice . The fact is i rather like cycling slowly and taking in the scenery. At the time i was going over one of the bridges that cross the thames and enjoying the view of the river
good deal...and yes I found it amusing. I ride slow myself a lot of the time. then sometimes i ride medium...not sure it would be fair to say I ever ride fast.

Well I asked for it... actually I said some folks can pass a roadie and some are just dreaming..I also said in an earlier post that some bent riders are full of themselves, but that's not usuaully the case, just as I suspect most roadies are just out to have a good time. Oh and both threads were before my time on the bent forums. I go my first bent in dec of 07. I have seen very few of these type post since I started reading them. but some do crop up as I already admited. On to the links you provided...

ah, meat and taters. and with a video to back it up. He does say not all were trying but 2 were. later he also says "At HnH I was chip timed through the 10 mile stretch of good pavement at 33mph avg" So its no surprise he smoked some roadies. heck he would have smoked most bent riders as well.

the second was a little more mean spirited but similar to many of the ones here which were more a poke in fun.

Anyways, thanks for pointing these out for me. I enjoyed reading them and learned something.

A meta-discussion about the value of such topics in general is one thing, but that's not what's under discussion here. We're talking about one particular type of wank-fest peculiar to the 'bent world that, apparently, coyboy doesn't believe exists.

Look, I =ought= to be an advocate for recumbents. I've tried them myself and I've recommended that others try them, especially if they have physical problems that keep them off uprights. I love seeing guys in their 80s still out there because I know that time may come for me. Yet the poisonous attitudes of a noisy part of the 'bent crowd are a huge turn-off.

The only recumbent I've ever ridden with was a BF member who talked literally non-stop about how recumbents were so much better than regular bikes ... and we'd be so much faster if we were on recumbents like him ... and he knew these recumbents that embarassed other fast riders ... and ... and and ...

I'm a ****** and dropped him like a rock on a short semi-steep hill. He whined for the next half an hour about how he'd have done better if he'd put that other cassette on last night but didn't ... and recumbents really aren't slower on hills, that's a myth ... and just wait until the downhills, he'd smoke us for sure ... and ...

Mr. Recumbent pulled ahead on the last big downhill, so my buddy on a 90's Guerciotti with downtube shifters and 7 speeds hammered out and left him in the dust. At the bottom, Mr. Recumbent could barely even speak. I think he mumbled 'man... he's... fast.'.

Heh.

Hey, all the hammock drivers I met Sunday were really nice guys. Every single one of them kept up a nice slow pace over the 100 mile route so that Cheri and I could pass them. I think some of them even went out of their way to leave early and wait for us. I'll tolerate no bad-mouthing of people so friendly and supportive of my ego.

Please stop trying to think for me...I did ask for you to point them out because I was serious in that I have not ran into that much of that type post in my forum reading. I did not point out that I had only been reading bent forums some 9 months so I guess I was sandbagging... but in my second post I said and I quote : "I think the OP must be meeting a bad rider. I have nothing against DF's other than the fact that a few of thier riders seem to have the "holy than thou" attitude, but thats probably true of bents or any other form of HPV you could think of... "

I should have expected it though when you made the "semiliterate ramblings" comment

Am I correct in thinking you and Cheri were on a tandom? From all I hear, those really are fast... BTW I never saw a tandom. In fact I have met a total of 2 bents (TE amd Corsa) and one trike (catrike) in all my riding. I do ride with another guy who is on a V-Rex. I do see quite a few roadies form Huntsville as they seem to like riding out our way. The few I have spoken with were friendly. And no, I haven't smoked any of them...yet...LOL

No, we ride our own bikes...to me a tandem is a sure road to either the nuthouse or divorce court...or both!

10-4 and good points. Anyways, I read an earlier post where you mentioned "windbreaker" (no not that kind) and was wondering then.

You demand that I prove I'm not lying to you and you then ask if I'm attempting to provoke a fight when I find you irritating?

fair enough, though I dont think I was that demanding. I asked an honest question and never downed any type bikers but appearantly that deserves name calling. As for irritating, I come by it honestly...there's my uncle Mu Tator, cousin Ima Tator, sister Adju Tator, my brother Devas Tator (he tears stuff up), my dad Dic Tator, and more distant kin Ro Tator and Spec Tator and of course me Mr Irra Tator.

Man...that's so incorrect I don't even know where to start. Having ridden for over 10-11 hours at a time on multiple occassions and not having any kind of saddle pain...you're...just wrong.
