Which Bike Storage Rack??
Good afternoon everybody!!
As some of you know, I am moving to Chicago in the very near future. It is my, soon to be, new lack of space that has given me reason to look around at the different bike storage racks that are out on the market. I have come across 2 that I really like and was wondering about all of your experiences.
Rack 1: XPORT bikes Aloft 2 Storage Rack at PBK for $69.99 (on sale, orig. $99.99)
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=6600
Rack 2: Delta Michelangelo Bike Rack at PBK also for $69.99 (on sale, orig. $79.99)
https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=6600
On PBK there are reviews of rack 1 which are very positive. However, there are no reviews of rack 2. I would love to hear any thing you all know about these racks or if there are others that I should be looking for as well. Thanks for any help!!

My totally uneducated guess (I have neither) tells me that the second would be sturdier, but farther away from the wall. (e.g. it would take more space in front of it) But I'm cheap and use wall hooks instead. (space not being *that* of a premium where I live.)

We have the Nashbar version of Rack #1. Same design, but in black. We think very highly of it. Holds an old steel French sport-tourer and a high-zoot CF/AL sportster aloft with ease and grace. Looks good enough that we keep it in the living room.

When I moved to my loft I had a similar dilemma.
Although the one that I purchased was a bit more expensive than the two that you listed, aesthetics and durability mattered to me. I encourage you to check this one out: https://www.saris.com/p-171-bike-bunk.aspx
I attached a couple of pics so that you can get an actual perspective.

STAY away from Saris and their floor arch model which holds a bike up right.
I bought 4 of them, and they are a piece of SHI#. Structurally junk, they bend and messes up rear deraillure. All my bikes lean horribly in them.

as I was looking at the Saris Bike Bunk a question popped in my mind... Tio, how does it support 2 bikes and now slide on the floor? What keeps the stand...standing?? As I look at the Delta Michelangelo, I wonder the same thing. Only rack 1 and the Nashbar equivalent seem to have back support (ie free standing). I like the looks of the Michelangelo and the Bunk better than Rack 1 and Nashbar however what is the sturdy factor difference??

I ordered this last week and it came in just a few days. $49 shipped, can't beat that.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000077CPK
It came with a bolt to mount it to the wall, but it seems stable enough that I haven't felt the need to bolt it to the wall. You will have to rest it up against a wall however.

I have the Bikes Aloft 2 rack, and it works great. It also breaks down easily for the next time you move.

+1. I have this rack and it works great. Another benefit is that you can set the arms at different heights. i.e. I use it for my mtn bike too that does not have a top tube, so I set the arms so that one goes under the saddle and the other goes under the frame.

Does the Bikes Aloft 2 stand very far away from the wall? It looks like the Michelangelo may be a little more space saving, what are your thoughts Jeffc, Mtbnomore and bartonfink??

I have this Minora rack and I like it alot. It's very stable and it allows the rack to sit flush against a wall without attaching to it or leaning against it. I got it from Trashbar: https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...torage%20Racks

Thanks for reminding me of this.
I just picked up the Delta Michaelangelo Rack and enough other stuff to get both the sale price and the 20% coupon.
I think the Delta M.. rack will be more stable the the one pictured first. JMO.
Thanks,
Ed

I have the first one. Performance also sells extra plastic "grips" that go on the support arms. With the extra grips, each arm can support 2 bikes. I have my rack loaded with four bikes. It's quite a space saver in my apt

I'm using a Minoura bike tower, which is telescopic
If your ceiling is high enough you should be able to fit 3 bike on the tower.

I have been looking into this as well. I am considering the Ultimate 2 Bike Velo Cache. It is more money than the ones you are looking at but it stands on it's own and doesn't need any screws to secure it. I also have the Ultimate Repair Stand which has very impressive build quality, so I expect the bike stand will be the same.
The arms are adjustable in case you have slopping top tubes.

About 8-10 inches I'd say. Though it's really stable, and there is never any concern of it tipping over.

The rack is about 8 inches from the wall. The total footprint of mine is 22 inches from wall to outside of frame. Note that you can move the pad where the top tube sits along the horizontal arm that sticks out. My pads sit at the very end of the arm (farthest away from the wall). I could easily move the pads to the middle and that would save about 5-6 more inches of clearance. Also note that my measurement does not inlcude clearance for the pedal or bars. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the tips and ideas guys! You all have been a big help! I have come to the conclusion that because the place I'm storing my bike is almost like a hallway, I will have to go for either the D. Michelangelo or the Saris Bike Bunk as they sit flush against the wall. Space is always the big issue
