Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

upgrades, new parts, et cetera

Holloa bikeforums. I have been a guest here recently and decided to sign up. As per the title of my post, I have been wondering what the best approach is in terms of upgrades to a bike. I currently am riding a Windsor Wellington 2.0 bought online from the infamous bikesdirect.com

(specs https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ellington2.htm)

The only real 'upgrading' I have done thus far was to get a decent (~$70) pair of LOOK pedals and some Sidis for $65, a really awesome steal.

So I come to bikeforums looking for some wisdom as to which parts are most interchangeable once upgraded OR if I should just save my working student's wages for a meaner machine. I'm thinking that at least buying a better saddle would not be unwise(?). Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

edit: Bah I forgot, I eventually plan on joining the local racing team in my area for racing and hopefully when I transfer to UC Berkeley to race on their team in Collegiate or Cyclocross.
