consider this hill...
So after i get home from work around 10pm or so, i go usually go for a short ride if i didn't ride before work. So this loop is my one of the ones i usually do and it's around 10 miles on length...I'm linkin my garmin stats and i was wondering...do i consider between mile 8.4 and 9.6 mile one hill or two? It's pretty much the same road and i was wondering if you would consider it one 1.5mile hill or a 1 mile hill and .5 mile hill? Also on another note, this was my fastest average at night!

Btw, I was prepared to have some kind of "what hill?" retort, but that looks like a good hill.

hahah i weigh in at 201lbs =)
no trick...i was just wondering because there is that little dip there and i can coast for almost 10-20 seconds and kind of recover
That hill is no joke for me....by the time i'm like .5mile up it, my heart says no more but i never stop! I just kinda slow down the cadence and try to recover a bit

I'm 145 and I don't see a hill at all, just another opportunity for me to drop your smug ass.
You should ditch that attitude, it's slowing you down.

It's not a "big" hill but it is certainly enough to be considered a hill, at least. It is certainly more than the freeway overpass that some people consider hills... But what constitutes a hill will always be subjective. In my race on Saturday, I was trying to convince a guy to try to stay away with me (we were already a little bit up the road from the field) and he said that "that last hill" had really hurt him. I replied, "what hill?"

I am NOT a climber, so don't consider this a criticism, but when I went back, I was surprised to see this considered as a hill by someone in Pennsylvania. It isn't even a 10% grade. (almost, but not quite)
To me, the street I live on is a gentle slope, and it is almost a 10% grade...
But I would also consider it one hill, and not two. and an average of almost 10% for over a mile would be tough for me... even if it wasn't as steep as some of the hills in PA.
So, do you find it easier or harder to climb this hill at night? Or does it matter? I'm just curious if there is a psychological difference in whether you can see the top of the hill etc.

Here in DFW area of Texas, that's a big-ass hill.
Where I vacation in Arkansas, that's just a warm-up. It's all relative.
Either way, whether the OP treats it as one hill or two is really more about how he wants to train than anything else.

If your purpose is to train for sustained climbing on the hill, keep your effort up on the 10-20 second dip, speed up your cadence, and/or shift up so you keep your power and your heart rate up,not allowing yourself to recover.

I'd say one hill also. Just like my ride on Sunday. One hill. Well, the same hill twice
I live in a bowl.
