Can you get a ticket for counter-traffic riding?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Can you get a ticket for counter-traffic riding?

to sum up: Our road-side MUP are sh*t-full of it and bump up and down at sidewalk dropoffs... so they're no-nos when going fast. The road, for some reason is even much more worse than the MUP, but, ... for only one side of the road at some places. It's like there are areas when it's the right side of the road thats bad, and others where its the left side...

So, I countlessly change going with and against traffic. My Q: Can you get ticketed for counter-traffic riding? What if I prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the roads and MUPs are such b*tches for road bikes that, it would be even more dangerous to plow throw the uneven road (maybe rockign me off the bike, or change direction involuntarily), or for that matter, scrap my bike.

Anecdote: I got a flat and a bent wheel one time because of those damned roads...

PS: Where, oh, where do you think I live, I wonder?.... If you didn't feel my sarcasm... Québec

The food and women are nice in Quebec. You expect a perfect streets downtown in the Great White North?
Do what most people do in the city and get a cheap mountain bike to tool around town to handle the bumps when not road cycling.
Your main concern should be,will the Montreal Canadians choke in the first round of playoffs this year.

You live in a Socialist society. You can probably get a ticket for anything that is remotely non-conformist.

Assuming Canadian traffic laws are like American, then whether your bike would be messed up or what you think is safe would be irrelevant to whether you get a ticket or not.

You typically get tickets based on what the laws say, not based on what is safe. So, unless the law gives you an exception for safety, you could get stuck.

But, that is just an uneducated guess.

We're red and white and we're proud of it.

Yes you can get a ticket.
The only way to improve your situation is to get out of Quebec and go to BC.
Ontario roads are not that much better than what you described.

Around here nobody cares what you do on a bike unless you directly piss someone off.

Move here... the only thing that will happen is that you get run over.
