4.5 Weeks and Still Waiting!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

4.5 Weeks and Still Waiting!

It's been nearly five weeks since I ordered my Felt 75. Just getting the run-around from the shop. Is this typical wait time, or am I justified in demanding my money back and going elsewhere?

I don't think it's the store, Felt don't seem to have any bikes right now.

Well, there is a shop down the road that is selling a BMC Streetfire SSx at a similar price point. I may go that route.

Give the shop one last chance to make things right, either by supplying your bike or giving you your money back. If they can't do that, inform them in writing of the cancellation and call your CC company to have the charge reversed. If the shop hasn't supplied you with a product they don't have much of a leg to stand on.

Maybe the bike is in demand...

I waited 192 days (6.5 months) for my Cervelo RS...

Ordered it November '07, LBS charged $400 or so deposit then the rest on pick up in May '08...

Now that was a long wait!!!

I do know that the LBS here normally take a bit of a deposit before ordering a bike unless it's a bike they normally order.

But 5 weeks is just a long time to wait for a bike. However isn't this the time they start rolling out the '09 bikes? Shouldn't they already have the '09 infrastructure set up?

Well they do have really nice bikes though... I've been lusting for an F4... Too bad they don't sell just the F4 frame. The only frame they sell is the F1 frame... and that costs as much as a complete F4.

It just took me a bit over three weeks to get my CAAD9. It's just that time of year when the manufacturers are swapping from one line to the other.

Bike sales are booming and it's late in the season. Also, Felt is not one of the major brands and doesn't pump out massive quanities of bikes. The 2008 F75 is much improved over previous years (better crank) and may be in demand. My Felt dealer tells me that the F55 is near impossible to get after April. If you're really jonesin' for a bike you might want to keep looking around.

Your good humor through that paint job process has been extraordinary.

I'd love an F4 as well. But hey, you CAN get an F5 frame (sold in Canada) on eBay for not too much.

Just an update on the situation. Went to the shop and got my money back. I'll try getting into the sport next season. Maybe pick up a bike over the winter.

Try waiting for over 10 years.

The shop I reserved it at has since closed, been demolished and been replaced by a Cricket Mobile store.

I probably overreacted. But I was sick of the run-around. $1099 sure sounded like a good deal though. Whateva...

careful what you ask for.....just retelling the story may be enough to push Rad over the edge....and believe me, that will not be a pretty site!!

It is not the shops fault. Felt is almost completely out of frames for 08 and the 09 stuff is still in production. As to a shop taking payment up front, that is normal practice. They need to cover the cost of the bike if it ends up in inventory because you change your mind and get a different ride. Usually that is from a non-refundable deposit. When I worked for my LBS we took payment in full and would put that money toward another bike if the vendor couldn't deliver and/or we would refund the customer. I would call Felt and ask them what is up.
