apparel for biathlon
I am competing in a biathlon next weekend. It is a 5 mile run and 22 mile bike on rolling hills. Does anyone have any opinions on what I should wear? I dont have any cycling gear, but I can buy some.

You should either wear bike kit or a triathlon specific outfit. The reason is that you can run in biking gear, but you can't really bike in running gear. Tri specific gear is nice, because it's a little better for running, but the main point of tri-specific gear is that it is designed to be wet from the swim.

A good substitute for expensive tri shorts are cheap bike shorts (as long as you don't swim), because both have lightweight chamois.

Tri-shorts (or cheap cycling shorts as cparekh pointed out) are your best bet, but with only 22 miles in a saddle, compression/spandex shorts would be better than your normal running shorts, and running shorts better than nothing. A wicking shirt or jersey of some kind for the rest of you.
Good luck! |
A duathlon would be the correct term. A biathlon is something like rifles with cross country running or in winter something like skiing and rifles. Hence the snarky responses.

I would think that compression shorts would work well....for only 22 miles a chamois isn't that important....a sleeveless jersey would be a good idea in the run so your arms wouldn't be rubbing....as stated a pair of tri shorts would also work as they have a thinner chamois that won't chafe your legs during the run but would provide some benefit during the ride...good luck!!...and don't mind the kids here, most will be in bed soon.
