3 in mind, entry to road bikes
 

I`ve participated in the 25 mile hotter than hell twice and i want to advance next year to the 50 mile or 100k, and go from my rockhopper with smooth tires to a road bike. I dont want to spend much and i might buy used, but if i buy new, my bike shop said they sell alot of scott, trek, and specialized, i like specialized (rockhopper). I might do other races if i get a new bike and i dont want to spend more than $1000, i can upgrade later. I`ve been looking at the specialized allez ( whats the difference in triple and double?), trek 1.2, and the scott speedster s50 and s60.
opinions are welcome dont post " trek is better that scott" or anything like that, just why you`d prefer this over the other.

Right now you can get a Giant OCR-1 for around $1,000. It has a full Shimano 105 drive train, carbon forks and seatpost and other fairly decent components to get you started. I'm happy with mine. My LBS says prices are going up by about 20% for the '09 models, and I assume the same is true for the other brands. Probably not a bad time to buy, all things considered. I bought a Trek 1.2 for my daughter this summer for $650, but it's quite a bit more now, judging from the msrp. Kind of marginal components.

I have a Scott S20. I prefer it over the others because in my opinion you get more bang for your buck. I paid $1299 and got full 105 componentry and some carbon fibre(fork and wrapped seat post). It just seems that with some of the other brands you pay the same and get less than equal components. Also you dont have to worry about seeing a dozen other bikes just like yours(many more Treks and Specialized bikes out there) on the road. I was just looking to get the most bike for my dollar and for me the Scott S20 was the one.

This is not to say I dont like Trek or Specialized. My first bike was Trek 7.3 FX and i loved it.

FYI-Triple and Double is referring to the crank. Double is the "standard" and prefered by a majority of road cyclist. A triple comes in handy if you plan on doing a lot of climbing. You can of course still climb with a double, but it takes more effort with a double. Having to use more effort in my opinion is not such a bad thing.

I`m still just fourteen and 1000$ is quite a bit but should i try to save more and get a better bike in the 2000$ and under area, if so what should i look at i might be able to get an earlier year scott team CR1. And can i ride a road bike every day or does it not like alot of riding?

I looked at all of those bikes and found a speedster s40 new for less than 900 (850ish), tiagra shifters/derailers carbon fork ect, I rode the 1.2 and it was fine and I wanted to ride the allez but the bike stores I went to didnt have any near my size. I checked out some other more expensive bikes like the 1.5 and the six13 and didn't think they were worth the extra cash (to me).I am very happy with it but am no pro, as for alot of riding it doesnt seem to mind the 100+ miles a week I ride it. Ive seen some decent used bikes on roadbikereview.com in the sub 1000 range if your didn't look there allready. Good luck

If you're only 14, you're still growing. Don't overspend now, save some money up so that you'll still have a frame that fits when you inevitably outgrow this one.
