Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

10% isn't that much of a discount. And by the overwhelming amount of people saying you got ripped you'd think you'd start to clue in.

$400 bucks for bontys!!!!! Dude you should have saved your money and put it toward some real wheels.

So I take it that someone who buys a Lamborghini Gallardo got ripped off because he could have bought a Corvette ZR-1 (half the price) for the same performance?

I did not get ripped off, I did my research before purchasing anything and what I paid is quite reasonable for the service I got from my LBS. The LBS has to make SOME profit... so I can't expect them to give me everything at their cost AND provide the same service they've given me.

He likes his bike and he's happy with his purchase. Leave him alone.
You guys are just jealous cause you don't live with your mom and you can't afford to spend your money on trivial things like overpriced poser bikes and components. Oooooh, did I just say that out loud?

$3/400 for a set used of Bonty X-Lite isn't that bad. Aren't they along the lines of Easton EA90 Aero/SL/SLX's (MSRP $750)? Just keep riding them and try to test ride potential wheelset candidates because you get a new set.

Congrats on your new bike and have fun over the long weekend!

BTW, you should get a 2nd bottle cage.

The retail pricing on these Bontrager Race-X-Lites is $799. I think I got a good deal on them, when the new wheelset comes in I will use them as backup wheels or training wheels.

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement.

I have a 2nd bottle cage that will go on as soon as I find the right size allen wrench for these darn screws. The allen keys found their way out of the plastic holder and I can't seem to figure out which one is which.

just some advice, msrp's are really not a good indication of the value of things. check ebay if you want to see what something is really worth.

How insecure, petty (and small peckered) does someone have to be to feel the need to make someone else feel bad about a purchase, a decision, a choice... just to boost their own ego about their own?

The man is happy with his bike. Let him ride it and be happy.

That's a good idea, but with one glaring flaw. A LBS will laugh at you if you try to get them to match the price of something from ebay. The reason being is because most ebay sellers have virtually no overhead cost to tack onto the cost of their products. A brick and mortar shop has to pay rent, electricity, employee wages, etc. If you're confident enough to build your bike with stuff purchased from online, good for you... however I am personally not at the level where I can buy stuff from online and put it together myself.

Even if you over paid a bit, who cares? Enjoy the bike.

I'm happy for you OP. I'm glad you got something you liked...and basically, that is all that matters.

That being said, this is the biggest thread backfire I have ever seen.

I can't believe all the idiots in this forum! I've riden with plenty of socalled riders that can't ride for crap eventhough they post in forums like they are the elite. I bet half the people dissing Kareem are wannabees anyways. I've met some 'legends in their own mind' riders and I bet these idiots are the same. Believe me K, if they were good riders, they'de be giving you props no matter what bike you bought or rode. These guys have low self esteem and have nothing better to do than make themselves feel like real riders by dissing you!

Someone's got to make them feel good about themselves and they do a good job of it on their own!

You've got a badazz bike, enjoy it ! Dude, F the rest!

Hi,

So Iamkar33m buys a nice bike for a nice price (not super low, fantastic deal) through his LBS and a bunch of folks here think he got ripped off?

The same "folks" would probably be harassing Iamkar33m if he had bought a bike from that direct place and would then tell him to pay the $150 to get it built right at his LBS and to replace some of the so-called crappy components that come on the direct bikes. (BTW, I have nothing against that company -- just using the descriptions that I read on some threads for illustrative purposes.)

Iamkar33m, enjoy the ride. Maybe I'll see you on the road sometime.

Yeah I know... sometimes you just can't win in this forum. You buy a nice expensive bike, they claim you got ripped off. You buy a cheap and decent bike, they diss you for not buying a more expensive one. I hope to ride with you sometime around So. Cali... you know what my bike looks like.

That's why I have clipless pedals... so if you try and swipe it, that's not the only thing you're swiping.
