Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, got my bike fixed.

Wasn't able to keep it vintage, but I just wanted to get on the road, let me know what you think.

I think that DD's should be bannished from being discussed on this forum for ever. It's something that they need to figure out themselves over time(and or experience).

Yeah, I went with "the only thing they had" at the LBS to get it working again. Went for a good ride last night and it felt great :]

Old Seat = Right next to me

And to SingleSpeeDemon, are you referring to the first crankset? Because that's what the issue was in the first place.

It looks good. I think your chain might be a bit longish and the short cage RD may not be able to take up all the slack because of that, but otherwise I'd say ride it.

Yeah, you think after paying the LBS 160$ that might be something they'd mention. I definitely noticed the chain hanging pretty low so I've been keeping it out of the smallest gear.

Nice! Way to go for riding vintage, although you should have replaced the old Brooks saddle with a new one. A brown one would match the hoods and then, if you wanted to get really ocd about it, you could get brown leather bartape and straps. Or you could have gone with a black saddle, hoods, tape and straps.

Oh trust me, I fully intend to once I have the money. The decision was basically ride on a crumbling leather saddle, or buy one for 9 bucks that wasn't falling apart. I just wanted to get it into riding condition as it's going to be my daily transportation for about 2 months, and from there I'll get the good stuff :]
