Blackburn Neuro display question.
 

Can the display on the Neuro show speed, cadence, and heart rate at the same time? This is unclear from all the shots I have seen of the screen. Also I have never seen one used with the stem mount. Does anyone have any pictures or experience with this?

I don't have one but the upper window in the pic on the left appears to be a heart rate. Judging by the descriptions on the right it would appear you could select what appears in the upper and lower window.

I have one. Yes, it can.

I have the top right set for cadence, the speed and time are permanent, and the bottom view can be distance, HR, or actual time.

Thanks. I figured this was the case. I did not want to buy and find out I was wrong. $40 cheaper than the cateye v3 so this is probably the way I will go.

^^^ The bottom can also be set for total feet of ascent or for percent grade, on the 6.0. The top can be set to display either cadence or HR. If you set the top for HR, then you cannot display HR in the bottom, same goes for cadence (in other words, it won't let you duplicate, which cuts down on the scroll time a little if you're going through the bottom screen.)

That said, I shipped my 6.0 back to Blackburn for a refund because it kept crapping out on the display. they sent a new battery, saying they had had trouble with the OEM batteries, but that didn't fix the problem. Also, the altitude display on the 6.0 is wildly optimistic. Not even consistently optimistic, so you can't really get any sort of an idea of what your climbs have been.

Down here altitude is not much use. 5.0 would be my choice.

Just bringing this back to the front in the hopes that someone that owns this can post a pic. I too am curious how it looks in a real life situation.

REI had (and am guessing still has) a very good price on the 6.0 (like $169).

I had one and returned it however. You can read my review of it on REI.

Biggest problem is the thing just locks up, and totally freezes, not even the clock running. Then it starts again anywhere from 5 to 50 minutes later.

I got no help from Blackburn other than it is a known problem, and no assurance a replacement wouldn't have the same problem.

If it worked consistently, it would be a nice computer.

I'd suggest that if you go for it, that you buy it from REI because of their liberal return policy.

I have the Blackburn Neuro 6.0 and agree that it did lock up pretty much every ride. Through the process of elimination (changing batteries is the "did you reboot your computer" response from the customer service), I have concluded that the real-time heart rate monitoring in the Upper Data Window is causing the issue, esp. if you start toggling the Odomemter/Lap/Avg speed/Avg Cad/Alt screens. It seems as if the cpu cannot process/display all the info at once. Keeping the cadence in the Upper Data Window and the HRM in the Lower Data Window seems to keep the device active.

Note on the stem mount for the OP, it is like adding a 1mm spacer on your stack. It makes the headset tight in a few wrench turns. Also, the stem mount is metal and can be bent to hug your stem.

On a side note, people constantly ask me if that is a Transformer on my stem.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the CPU always seems to stop listening to the HRM if you perform the manual learn function. Must have been on 50 or so rides before I learned that when the unit comes out of sleep, let it learn all the speed/cadence/hrm on its own. It may take up to 30 seconds of spinning, but it will never drops during the ride after the ---Link--- screen runs its course.

Lots of workarounds for a $150+ cyclocomputer, but it does track HRM/Speed/Cadence/Ride time/altitude/etc. Still worth it IMHO.

I've never had it lock on me (Neuro 6.0). I keep CAD in upper right hand window and usually have HR at bottom. It would not link with the HR monitor during the link phase out of sleep a couple of times, but since have learned to manually link by holding down left button when the bottom displays distance. IMHO, very good computer if you don't mind the fluctuation in Altimeter readings (most computers do this due to changes in air pressure during a ride).
