My Long Term Goal.
So I have seen alot of threads about climbs lately. This climb is my long term goal. I currently am a complete newb and averaged 13.9mph on my 6 mile round trip commute to work today (just got my first speedometer yesterday). Not many flats, it seems its eather uphill or downhill the entire time. I ride about 11mph up the few small hills in route. Top speed today was 32.9mph but i had to slow down due to traffic. How long do you think it will take me to work up to this???

Do it tomorrow. Surprise yourself. Don't "work up to it." Don't think about it. Just ride up the hill, and ride back down it. It's that easy.

If worst comes to worst you can always turn around and ride down, but then you'll feel like a quitter so you won't do that.

Awesome -- it's great to have something to focus on.
Tapeworm has a point, but if you can't do that, try finding out what the various grades are on the climb and look for some similar but smaller grades to practice on (say between 1-2000ft of elevation). Worked out great for me

just don't stop in the middle of the steepest section. Keep pedaling even if you're going at a snail pace and if you are going at a snail pace more power to you for being able to keep yourself upright.
