Not necessarily, I walked on a broken fibula for ~36-48 hours. Recovery time was the typical time for bolting bones back together. Actually went off crutches faster than most.

I think that's where this thread divides. I get the idea of not quitting and achieving goals.

However, a lot of people don't see finishing a routine century to be such a big deal. But it's all relative.

True...If your goal is to spend several months recovering from an injury.

Just curious, but this means you've done one race?

At 10% of needing 10 races to upgrade I would concur with your assessment.

Still...that's 1 more than most BF'rs have done...not to imply you were passing judgement just wanted to point that out.

Sorry to burst your bubble, the Fibula isn't a weight bearing bone. It will either heal itself, or require surgery to heal properly. Walking on it will not make it any better or worse.

I've broken both of my Fibulas, one healed on it's own, one I got operated on. If it needs surgery and you don't get it, it will destabilize your ankle which is the primary job of the Fibula in the first place.

Wanna impress me, break your Tibia, walk on that, and report back with the results.

Regarding the consensus that the NYC Century was not worth completing we do not know what he was riding for so we truly cannot make that judgment.

The point of the post was that he was able to complete it in his condition after deciding it was worth completing.

I seem to recall someone saying something like: "Pain is temporary, sooner or later it goes away to be repalced by something else. Quitting is forever."

WOW! ... I tried to get cutesy and post some funny picture of some hardcore athlete.
So I typed "hardcore" to do a google image search...WOW!

Go check out some of the mountain bikers...they put the H in HTFU.

I have ridden with dislocated joints, broken ribs, and with bandages from knee to ankle to stem bleeding.

And that's nothing compared to some of the stuff I have seen.

Why did anyone accept that the extra 3 months holds? I would welcome the second opinion......

No such luck....I was just blessed with 24 inches worth of porn on my work computer....I saw a naked midget there for a second before I could close the window

Well, I kinda was, to be honest. It just seems like a strange Sig and I wondered if I was missing something.

It reminds me of the first drink I bought for my sister. I ordered a white russian and I told the bartender to not mix it too strong. When she went to get one for herself she ordered a 'white russian virgin'. The bartender looked at her for a minute and then asked incredulously, "What the hell do you want? A glass of milk?"

You're right, though, 1 race is 1 race above what most people have been in.

+1 I totally agree. When you decide in your mind to accomplish something meaningful, you tend to do whatever it takes to get there. He obviously had set a goal and had a good enough reason in his mind to complete the ride regardless of the pain or impending lengthy recovery.
