Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sidi Ergo 2 vs Sidi Genius: what makes a good shoe?

I'm in the market for a pair of cycling shoes and I don't know what I'm doing. What makes a good shoe? What makes a $300 shoe that much more expensive than say a $100 shoe?

And what on earth is the difference between the Sidi Ergo 2 and the Sidi Genius 6.6????

And does weight of shoes matter? A $100 Adidas adiStar Road Pro is half the weight of a Sidi Ergo 2. Sounds good. So what's wrong with the Adidas? Uncomfortable? Worse power transfer? Not durable?

Thanks!

Coming from a Shimano road shoes, I just got my new Ergo 2 shoes because of numbness that I experience on my toe finger. Hope this will help solve the pain.

I just bought a pair or 6.6 genius;s ion steepand cheap and they had the adidas there as well. do a search on www.gearattack.com

the diff between the ergos and 6.6. is the technobuckle thing its the round looking buckle. yes the adidas are light ... ihave 2 pair. they are nice and stiff and have a decent last. they were going for 63 bucks on steep and cheap

1) Did you actually LOOK at the Sidi shoes you're talking about? It's pretty obvious.

2) The weight of a single shoe vs. a pair.

3) Sidi's are legendary for the quality of their construction, their fit, comfort, and the fact that if you wear a part out, you can send them back to get fixed for very little to no cost. Can't say the same about most other shoe companies.
