Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Broke distance and saddle-time personal records...

I planned to make a century attempt but when I woke up at 1pm I knew there was no time for that, not at my speeds anyway. However, I rode till it got too dark to see the road.

New Distance Record: 75.3 miles.
(old one was 60.2)

New Saddle Time Record: 6:09:07 (h:mm:ss)
(last one was 5 hours 52 minutes)

I got home with no cramps, no saddle issues (butt is getting conditioned at last), legs still strong and a little pain in the shoulders/neck. I'm sure, I could have done the extra 25mi if I had more daylight time (or a nice Dinotte).

I carried 4 bottles of water, bought a 5th along the way, and 4 granola bars of 100calories each. Doing the math from the time I left to the time I came back, minus the time riding, I estimate I used around 45 minutes on breaks.

Regardless if I didn't made the hundred, 75mi per gallon of water is pretty good. I'm happy.

The real question is why did you wake up at 1pm?

agreed, better off waking up at 6 in the morning and leaving by 8 or 9. Not to mention it would've been so damn hot within a couple of hours of you leaving.

I am excused from waking up early in the morning because I work nights. I'm not used to be awake in the mornings. When the sun goes up, I'm the first gargoyle to turn into stone.

Breaking records feels good indeed. Right when I past my record mark, I imagined somebody shooting blanks... like in The Flying Scotsman.
