Hypothesis: Sit bone span equal to finger span
 

Help me test my hypothesis: Sit bone span is (approximately) equal to the span of the four fingers with the fingers together (measured near the finger tips, not at the knuckles).

Well, you can measure both separately, or just hold yer fingers together, reach down and press in; simple enough.

I came to the same conclusion after testing.

BTW... not even close, I would need to use both hands to bridge the gap between my sitbones... but then I'm a girl, I'm supposed to have a big butt I guess.

NO...but....your foot size is ~equal to the length from the point of your elbow to the base of your palm....go ahead try it....put your foot up against the inside of your forearm.

From some of the comments here I think you folks are measuring, um, a little too far back. The portion of your bones (ischial tuberosity ?) that constitute your sit bones (in the context of road cycling) are the portion that bear your weight when you are riding a road bike, not when you are sitting in a chair, not when you are riding some hybrid sitting straight up. Maybe your handle bars are seriously too high...

That means that if you are anywhere near sticking your hand up your butt in finding your sit bones you are too far back. Try again.

I dunno Charlie...you may be on to something here. I just measured to the indentations on my commuter's Brooks B17 saddle...4 fingers is pretty damned close to center-center! It's a touring bike and the bars are only about an inch or so lower than the saddle...but hey, don't look a gift Fred in the butt.

The way things have been feeling in my southern region lately- I don't think I have sit bones :)

I'm stuck. Lil' help over here please...
