Wedding Band Materials—For the Ultimate in Roadie OCD

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm actually keen on 316L stainless, probably because I've Dremel-buffed most most of my steel watches to death and they're still in mint condition. Plus it's a very white metal.

Ti scratches easier than steel, and is rather dull in gun metal grey.

But I discovered ceramic zirconium rings today, in black or white—kinda curious now.

I've seen those around and think it's a terrible idea. The resin will wear so quickly.

I actually prefer titanium bands over platinum or gold or white gold or whatevever precious metal. I just like the look and feel and weight of the titanium band.

But nothing beats carbon fibre! Wheres the carbon fiber band?!?! It must be laterally stiff yet vertically compliant! And it must be light!

I have titanium. I don't know that I'd get anything else. Yeah, it scratches easy, but who cares. Once you have enough scratches you can't tell anymore...

And they're cheap.

You know this topic came up between a friend and I just the other day. Carbon fiber was the odd winning choice. Heck, is she wants diamonds that were once carbon...why can't I have CF? I'd probably have to send it in to Calfee for a re-size.

All in good fun though.

Show her pictures of armless African kids and then ask her if she still wants diamonds.

If you think about it conflict diamonds—and all diamonds are conflict diamonds—have more value since people have died for them. Each diamond represents suffering in a part of the world that is often just an afterthought. Powerful stuff those diamonds, I want one.

I've got a platinum band. It's heavy, it was expensive, but fortunately I like it.

If I had to do it over, I'd probably save some $$ on my band and get white gold or titanium.

Ti is so light on the finger, though, it's almost like not having anything there.

my wedding band will be tungsten.

Ti is nice too. I don't have any Ti rings, but my watch is Ti band and case. Its so light you really don't notice you are wearing it. Also new technology in anti-wear coatings make it so scratches don't appear so bad

If forced to choose one of the above I would choose titanium. My own wedding band is white gold. It would not matter to me as a cyclist though, because I don't wear my ring while riding. I don't like the way it feels with the half finger gloves.

Ti. And when you bash your finger or get it crushed .... good luck getting the ring cut off.

Mine is white gold, but I haven't worn it in something like 14 years. My wife doesn't wear her rings either. I hate having stuff like that on (don't wear a watch either).
