Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thule Peloton

Hello,

I've got a quick question, interested in buying a a roof mounted bike rack. I've been looking at the Thule Peloton 517, the car is a 2003 Honda Pilot and it has a factory rack with crossbars on it. I was on Thule's site and I did their little "Rack Your Car" thing and it led me to a bunch of different racks, saw the 517 Peloton and says it will mount to the factory rack. I can't really see from the pictures how it mounts to the rack. Just wanted to clarify that this the 517 Peloton will mount to the factory crossbars without any other things needed?

Thanks.

If their fit guide says that's all you need, then that's all you need. I would think you'd need an adapter for the front clamp to fit a different bar shape (assuming yours aren't rect cross-section).

BTW, I love my Pelotons.

Ya, I'm just a bit confused about how they mount.

Here's a picture of the factory rack on the car. Since you said you have the pelotons, would they mount onto those?

Oh ya the crossbars can be moved closer to eachother or further so the gap between them isn't a big deal. It's the actual shape of the crossbars that has me questioning if they will work.

You will need an adapter for the front, but the rear should fit fine. If you have an REI nearby, I would recommend going in. They are pretty helpful.
