Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ESPNEWS says Astana is in the '09 TdF -- true?

Is it true? ESPNEWS just announced (without a televised clip) that Astana and Lance have been given an invitation to the '09 Tour de France.

Even the French would have to see the benifits to them. Money makes lots of things better.

I just talked to him - he's not sure he'll be ready. Don't listen to anybody else who purports to know anything contrary.

I guess it's now a done deal. Lance has already won the Tour.

It's so annoying that ESPN suddenly cares about cycling. Why is it that a sport that is relevant all over the world can't be relevant in the US?

You can still watch F1 races, at least - and the Montreal GP is on an entire order of magnitude better than Indy... don't even get me started on WRC.

The drop in interest in pro cycling in the U.S. because Armstong retired is not uniquely american. Here in Germany the interest in pro cycling has dropped significantly because Ulrich no longer races.
