Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant TCR Advanced

I'm starting a new bike build and want to do it with a 2009 TCR Advanced frameset. I'm having a hard time finding local dealers and even harder time finding out when the frames will be available so I figure one of you might know. Also, on the Giants website it says average price of $2k... what would the real retail price be?

I believe MSRP is around $1850, and they should be available by January or so. Giant has a dealer finder on their site.

What's the usual retail price vs msrp? The bike shop that usually hook me up isn't a Giant dealer so I have to go to one that I don't know as well, therefore probably won't give me much of a discount, if at all. I'm just trying to price out the build right now and start the process, so it helps if I know what my base(frame) will cost. It's good to know that they are available now though.

gsteinb... that looks great. How do you like it so far? I''m not getting the SL since I don't need the top of the line, nor do I want the ISP.

It's a magic bike, and it will turn winnings into ponies.

magic? apparently not that magical if it's only ponies. I need a bike that turn winnings into unicorns. Ponies are for amateurs.

I think you should expect to spend $2k. Budget for that, and if you manage to get a few bucks off it's gravy.

Edit: And don't forget to have the shop order the Shimano press-fit bearing cups from Giant's small parts catalog.
