08 Scanttante CFR Race Vs 08 Fuji Team Pro

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

08 Scanttante CFR Race Vs 08 Fuji Team Pro

Just getting back into cycling again and I was looking at the 08 Scanttante CFR Race and the Fuji Team Pro for a few hundred more. Wondering which is the best bike. Not to worry on the resale more for the performance and the best bang for the buck. Thanks.

If it had to be one of those two it would be the Fuji, but with all the other good bikes out there it would never come down to those two for me.

Are you dead set on buying from Performance?

No not really, just thought performance had a good deals going. The 08 Scanttante normally retails for 2k and with the year end sale price was $1439 plus 10% credit toward accessories if you are a Performance team member and another 10% off if I go on Tuesday 10am-12 noon. They also include lifetime free service on the bike. The bike was all carbon with top of the line crank,. But I keep hearing the Fuji Team pro was a little better bike. What other bikes do you know of that is all carbon with that price? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Fuji, definitely. I worked at Performance and saw far too many people returning their Scats because they didn't like them.

I had the Scanttante 06 with the full ultegra (cranks, brakes, etc). Very nice bike and I thought a tremendous deal. I got it on clearance for about the same price and sold it when I got a Cervelo P2C for triathlons. I think I bought it for $1400 and sold it for $1000 a season later. Plus got the $140 to spend on schwag. I enjoyed riding it.

I test rode the Fuji, it was about the same ride to my unsophisticated palate. Price was my decision maker.

BTW, the lifetime maintenance is a good deal. Especially if your Performance is a good as my local one.

In that price range, I would recommend going with Aluminum, as the cheap CF frames will probably weigh more and be sloppier. If you go used, you can get a nice CF bike for that $1400-$1600 kind of money. Note that I'm not suggesting you buy a cheaper aluminum bike, but that you consider the $1500 aluminum bikes.

What kinds of riding are you planning? Solo spinning, racing, centuries?

I've got two buddies that have the Scatantte CF bikes. They are very happy with them. My Performance store, in Tualatin OR, is great. Super customer service. I say go ride them and see what one you like better.

If you work for a living go to performance, otherwise piss it away at a boutique bike shop.
That should sum it all up.

Thanks for the info. Went and test both bikes today and I got to tell you the carbon frame on the Scanttante CRF Race felt better than the Fuji team pro and the shimano Ultegra st-6600 along with the FSA Ck-68681cc Crank crank felt great. After trying both bike I had to go with the Scanttante. Plus it was really nice to be able to use my $143 Performance team membership credit toward the add ons. I know some of you are down and out on Performance. But I got to tell you I have been going to the local shop for years and never have gotten this kind of service and extras. At this point of time they have my biz, and no I have never work for them or knows anyone personally who does.
