Nashbar "returned" items -- pros and cons?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nashbar "returned" items -- pros and cons?

This morning I saw a returned set of Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels on Nashbar's website. The price is GREAT, but they don't say anything about the condition of the wheels.

Does anyone here have experience with Nashbar's "returned" items? Were the items in decent shape? Does Nashbar's satisfaction return guarantee still apply?

I have had great luck with clothing from Nashbar's returned area. All like new. Can't speak for components however.

I ordered one item...once....a long time ago...from their return area. The item was on my invoive, but never made it into the order. I called a week or two after I had received the rest of the order and someone said they thought the item wasn't available...even though they had my money for that time...

....then I finally got a call a month or to later where they called to tell me they no longer had the item I wanted in the size I ordered it in (it was a saddle ) and was wondering if I would like that item in a different size..... When I explained that it was a saddle from their return area she spent a few minutes clicking away on the computer to end up saying something to the effect of:

"Oh, you're right. That item was returned. Was there anything wrong with it?"
"I don't know...I wasn't the one returning it. I was trying to buy the returned item from you."
"Oh...I don't think it is available anymore."
"I figured....that would most likely be why you were calling me. Can I have my money back now?"

If you want them I would buy them quick..........you've just announced the great deal to the biking community!

If there's anything wrong with them you can probably return them!

That sums up Nashbar/Performance better than I can.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything from either.

Actually, I already "bought" them, but . . .

1. They're still up on the website. (I guess they could have more than one set.) and

2. I never received an email order confirmation. and

3. I emailed Nashbar customer service asking about the order and have yet to receive a reply.

If I don't hear from them soon, I'll place a call.

They have the Ksyrium SL for $474 on the regular site, does that mean they're returned?

Look at the heading/title for the item. Before it says "Mavic", it says, "Returned."

Don't be surprised if you get an email in a day or two informing you that your item is out of stock...seriously!

Nashbar DOES NOT HAVE real time ordering.....which means that someone may have bough the wheels before you but they are still on the website....others will also continue to buy until nashbar updates its order list....they will get e-mails also...sucks I know

markyore, that's exactly what I've been thinking. Heck, since I posted this thread, they've probably "sold" at least a dozen more sets of these wheels.

I also hope it works out for you!

Contributing my own experience with them, I ordered some items from them, including their basic carbon fiber fork (which is REALLY good), and I got everything in a timely fashion. The only problem was that they sent my helmet in the wrong color. I didn't feel like returning it; would take too long.

I had the same issue with Performance, where I ordered a box of Clif Bars, and they sent me the wrong flavor. Turned out the flavor was pretty good!

Have ordered returned items from them multiple times to take advantage of special pricing. The only problems were:
1.) They don't update their returned inventory often (once a night as I recall) so the item can still appear to be purchased only to find out days later it was no longer available. Their way of notifying you is to not ship it.
2.) Invariably, the item was no longer available when I was using it to get over some coupon threshold (10% off over $50, etc..) - as a result I would not get the returned item and get charged full price for anything else on the order.

I placed a call to customer service to see if my order was processed. The response is very unsatisfying:

"Well, sir, nobody has received order confirmations because our system has been down. Whenever the system comes back up, we should be able to send confirmations."

Me: So, I will receive an email confirmation, after the system comes back up, if my order went through?

"Yes, sir."

We'll see.

The inevitable email arrived.

"The following items have not been shipped with your order. Reason: The items have been discontinued."

In other words, I didn't get there first.
