Man, PBK is nuts

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Man, PBK is nuts

I got an alert email 7 minutes ago that they had gray keo cleats in stock. I ordered a set and they're already showing none left. The law of supply and demand only seems to work haltingly at PBK.

Actually, that shows that the law of supply and demand work very well, other than the fact that there was excess demand indicates that the price wasn't high enough.

The problem is the price isn't uniform across the market. I hoard Keo cleats from PBK, because it's essentially 2 for the price of one.

Edit-Plus what I meant is PBK seems to be breaking down on the supply side of things.

Good call! I would also think that Michelin Krylion Carbons would also be a good place to stash your cash.

+1 They never seem to have any of their clothing in my size, nor bike parts that I actually need. Good place to get good deals on tires and tubes though.

I've been buying jerseys from PBK most recently. I snagged a '08 CSC Jersey (genuine Craft) for $55. They had been out of stock, but I grabbed it within a couple hours of getting the e-mail that it had been restocked.

PBK is great, but you have to check around to make sure they have the best price.

What's the deal with the 15% off sale when they've got nothing to sell? What's the point?

These days? Well, yes many days extending back to mid August!

I just got a shipping confirmation, in it they thanked me for my recent order. Thing is the order was placed on August 12!

Can't wait to see what it is! It's been so long I've forgotten.

The one time I tried to order from them they were out of stock of the item I wanted and anything at all related to it, as in related to biking. They should change the 15% off sale to 95% off since they don't have anything to sell anyway.

You just have to be willing to adjust to what they have in stock.

For example, I wanted to order some Look KEO Classic pedals. They were out of stock. So I checked Performance and Nashbar. They are both selling for $100 while PBK is listed at $47.

So I looked at what PBK DID have in stock. They have the KEO Carbon CroMo in stock, and for $130. So basically, I add $30 to what I would be paying at performance for the Classic, and I get the Carbon. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

I ordered some replaceable parts. Cables.. cable ends a baselayer shirt for the upcoming 40-50F FL "winter" .. with the 15% off not bad. Why do you think they do their awesome sale when nothing good is in stock ? Because prices are so low they couldn't do it when they actually had stock...

Yes, it's pretty frustrating to get all jazzed up about a sweet deal only to find a big fat ZERO on the "in stock" column. The same items out of stock for months doesn't help either. It would be better if the out of stock items weren't even listed on the site. They could free up a lot of server space.

Dear Mr XXXXX,

We have received your recent order but I’m afraid that the Look Keo grey cleats have actually oversold and we cannot supply you with them – we do not expect anymore stocks for quite sometime and were just wondering if there was an alternative item you would like to exchange to or if you would prefer a refund for the order?

Kind regards,

Administration

I'm guessing this means the "0"s in the stock column will stay that way for the coming months. It's going to be a long winter

They had plenty of stock last year, and the prices were just as low. They are a lot more popular these days, though.

Hmm that's a good idea. So I need an Ultegra SL front derailleur but maybe I'll just order a bottom bracket instead because it looks like that's the only thing in stock.
