Purchased new frame today - need input
 

I purchased my first CF frame today, an Alan Supreme 3k. Now I need to build it up.

I haven't done a fresh build in years, and I lived in a rural area without many fellow roadies, so I'm still a bit out of it as far as these things go.

I'm assuming that the Shimano - Campy holy war still rages. But is it still considered a mortal sin to build an Italian frame with Shimano? I've gotten quite used to Dura Ace brifters and they seem to just keep going, and I have 3 sets of Shimano based wheels.

On the other hand, I am lusting after the 10 Speed Campy Record group. Choices are difficult.

Oh, by the way, here's a pic of the frame. It's a stock photo since I still haven't taken delivery but my wallet has been emptied!

It's a horribly ugly frame. Just ship it to me and I'll dispose of it properly.

I would propose a "BOM" (bill of materials) excel spread sheet with all of the parts, prices and vendors for the parts you'll need/want. This will help you organize what has to be bought from where and give you total costs of the various senarios you have in your head.

SRAM is the only choice.

SRAM...but that's just me.

If your comfortable with DA, then I'd stick with that although the new record is sweet looking and yes, many out there consider it a mortal sin to put anything other than campy on an Italian frame but you might get away with an Alan frame as it wouldn't be as mainstream as Colnago, etc. I run Fulcrum Racing 3's on my frame and have been very happy with them, light but strong - have taken a few knocks and they've stayed pretty true. Also Fulcrum can take either campy or shimano. Red bar tape and red hoods would look sweet with that frame. Google Hudz to check 'em out

who the heck even knows Alan is Italian?

Unless you don't plan on using those wheels, I'd stick with Dura Ace or go with SRAM

it's all made in Taiwan/Malaysia/Singapore/China anyways.
just get whatever satisfies you better.
unless you're willing to experiment with full SRAM or campy.

Stick with DA. No reason to fix what ain't broken.

Before buying more Shimano components, you owe it to yourself to ride a SRAM-equipped bike...

There is nobody keeping you from doing what you want, regardless of pedigree. And both of your choices are sound. So why are you asking us?

Agree with sstorkel...you should test ride a campy and SRAM equipped bikes. No harm. Also, AEO is probably right, frame was most likely manufactured in the far east - like my Pedal Force ZX3 and as a first CF frame, I love it.
